Jaide
Came home from work to find this mark on him: He seems ok at the moment but should I be concerned - almost looks like mould in appearance
Dixon1990
are there any plecos in the tank with mouths that size?
Jaide
A BN yes, but not a mouth that size - she's only about 6cm I think. I've never seen her attach herself to a fish and am surprised if the Dollar would allow it
Adrienne
No real idea but could it be a heater burn?
Dave+Amy
could be a heater burn - my GBA had round lesions but it healed quite fast
lmsmith
It could be heater burn I guess, but you would usually find it more on the front of the fish - they don't usually swim sideways. You said it looks mouldy? I'm assuming the scales are gone?
alanmin4304
If it looks mouldy it will be infected with fungus and should therefore be treated with an antibiotc and fungicide.
Jaide
Could be a heater burn - the fish tend to just hover around a lot, not moving and slot themselves alongside objects. Or, could be fungus, no scales there at all so that's why I thought maybe it is fungus. I'll keep an eye on him and see if how it goes. I find my dollars get all sorts of marks and lumps on them, but then they go away.
Jaide
Well the fungus or scab is now peeling off, so assume it's a scab from heater burn?
Dave+Amy
eww
Jaide
lol, that's not very helpful. but the scab has completely come off and it's pinky fleshy underneath - I'll keep an eye on it but it hasn't got any worse, so will assume it's heater burn. alanmin4304
Any type of wound will be the same. You will need to watch it to make sure it is/does not get infected and treat at the first sign.
melrick1
I think it is a heater burn as these fish do go horizontal to eat plants and may have become wedged as they are so skinney... just a thought
yeeahboy
Hi, I have six silver dollars. about 2 weeks ago 1 had that same scab on it. I tryed catchin it so i could treat it but that was impossible. Over 2 weeks the white scab spread to different parts, then would dissaper and leave black marks which is now starting to heal. Does this sound simmilar? I rekon it happened because i wasnt doing enough water changes.
Jaide
It hasn't spread yeahboy, in fact - it's healing up nicely. Now has skin/scales growing over the wound and is becoming a nice silver colour again
herefishiefishie
Nice to see its healing, just keep the water clean & all will be good. Frenchy
