  1. Hi, I have six silver dollars. about 2 weeks ago 1 had that same scab on it. I tryed catchin it so i could treat it but that was impossible. Over 2 weeks the white scab spread to different parts, then would dissaper and leave black marks which is now starting to heal. Does this sound simmilar? I rekon it happened because i wasnt doing enough water changes.
  2. that mix sounds good. use colour less gelatine as a bonder for thr food, works a treat. You could also buy some spirulina powder from health food shop and mix that in.
  3. I'm in the Mt pleasant area. The test kit must be fualty. I will ring up the council, any ideas on who to contact.
  4. Hey just wondering what the average (if there is an average) PH reading you guys get for Christchurch tap water. I have tested but don't believe the raeding, it was in the 8. Thanks
  5. Dog's are awesome I've been thinking of getting a dog for a year or so now. Waiting for the right time. I really interested in getting a blue healer (aka australian sheep dog). any one had experience with these. Been searching round but have no idea were i could find a breeder or someone selling them.
  6. I had it take over my tank at one point (due to an imbalance of nutients I think.) after 1-2 weeks it completly died off (tank balanced out) Now silly me have added some nutrients etc, and what do you know its back.

    Bloated

Yes you should be worried. I don't want to give bad advise, but this is called dropsy and there is no cure. I had a tetra who had it he got bigger n bigger for like 2 months then suddenly he pretty much exploded. google dropsy see what you find. Pros correct me if i'm wrong.
  9. You say its a giant bully? very ironic name It looks small compared to pebbles, or are they large stones?
  10. Yeah just get a timer from miter 10 for like 7 bucks. simple. then you wont ave to turn it on & off each night (what a pain). I have 2 timers, 1 for main light and 1 for night LED lights. they turn on and off simutaniously
  11. Yep its an algae bloom by the sounds of it. Do a 2-3 day complete black out of the tank. If that doesnt work use algaefix (this clears it right up) Oh and make sure you find the cause of the problem so it wont happen again
  12. Yea im sure you'll be alright with a fire on the beach, just check when you get there if there is any signs saying "no fire"
  13. Sorry man i know nothing about types of fish around there, nothing spectacular like kings. I dont do much fishing just snorkling around and jumping off the cliff jumps for a bit of fun. theres always plenty of fisherman around. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge could shed some light.
  14. Just walk around track on south side of taylors mistake (which leads to boulder bay). then just vere off track and find a nice spot, you can get right down to sea level, dont worry its not hard there are plenty of paths from the main track
  15. You could venture around the Taylors mistake cliffs & throw a line out there, (if you dont mind the occasional snag). There is a few fish around, in the summer i go snorkling along the cliffs with a spear, I occasionly get lucky but there pretty quick
  16. thanks for help. will try a black out. just a bit gutted cos i just did a black out to get rid of green water. when will i get to watch my fish ah!!
  17. Hi i did a bit of research. Yes i believe it is Cyanobacter. I think it was bought in on new plants. Is there any other method other than black out that may work. As i have a planted tank n dont want to kill plants aswell. Iv'e siphoned most of it off gravel & washed down my drift wood with a hose. but even if there is a tiny bit in tank it mulitplys fast

    Fin rott

yes i agree with improving water quality as i've had a few problems which all derive from poor water. I just find it hard to believe as i have always done weekly water changes 30% at least and vacum every 2 weeks. as stated above in first post all problems seemed to start when i got a new food brand. (maybe it was higher in phosphates or something)
