Guest
I'm really keen to get my pair in there own tank as they seem really laid back and they don't fight or anything but the only problem is the female is so laid back the platys found the eggs and she couldn't keep them away
Dave+Amy
And I'm finding my Ram fry like to commit suicide everytime I do a small waterchange by throwing themselves on the floating net sides (and there they stay stuck) I've lost 3 of my larger juvies. Cam - I find that my female is the more dominant one, if I don't put her in the next compartment after spawning then she chases the male away and gobbles up the eggs, but once I put her in the next compartment he goes straight to the eggs and starts fanning them. Does anyone else use green water from goldfish ponds etc for raising fry?
tracytrout
Hiya Amy Well done with the rams Yes! I've used green water, micros and also a little egg yolk watered right down and just a drop or two depending on how many fry you've got (does the same job as the liquid fry feed you buy in the petshop but way cheaper ) More photo's PLEASE
Guest
How many babies have you got? I moved my pair into their own tank today so hopefully they'll breed. My male when gaurding the eggs chases other fish in the tank away but then leaves the eggs alone as he gets a bit carried away  the female gaurds them but only chases them a little bit and they come back fairly quickly. Something I noticed was on Day 1 the female done most the work the on Day 2 the male done most the work, it was as if they were taken turns each day :-? . How long does it take for them to breed again?
Dave+Amy
Well mine breed basically WEEKLY - I don't know how to slow it down b'cos of lack of time and tank space I feed mine NLS Discus Granules so maybe it's conditioning her faster than usual? I followed Ron's (Discus Guru) advice and the male makes a better carer but I find his fanning inadequate (only 8 wrigglers surviving), today when I removed their new spawning the male tried to attack my hand so I had to have him netted while I stole the egg covered pot  updated photo - 12 remaining Ram Juvies (from oldest batch)
tracytrout
Awwww...ain't they cute How much damage did the male do to your hand lol You're doing so well with the rams, many would be very envious as I know some who've spent lots of time and money with very little or no success....GOOD LUCK!! Dave+Amy
he didn't do much damage but it kept me screaming until Dave pased me a net, I figured as long as he couldn't get any bit of my flesh in his mouth I'll be safe. Everytime I use green water the green clears up and I don't even do a water change, how do people keep it green? Had a jail break and one larger juvie got munched when it found its way into its parents compartment so now only 11 remains :-? I thought it looked too big to fit into the adult Ram mouths but somehow they managed to eat it

Dave+Amy
I haven't had a lot of time lately and have just left the parents in with the eggs with the mum eating all the eggs, I do have another older batch of around 20 coming upto 3weeks now. Out of the batch in the photos only 6 survivors - they constantly try to kill themselves like getting wedged between the sponge filter and the wall  pity since they were getting SO big. This batch - lil black dorsal fins showing and getting quite territorial...definately got one big boy. If I get too busy with Uni then I might sell this pair so someone else with more time can get the most out of them seeing that I suck at it lol
Guest
lol. It's just luck of who gets a good pair as from what I've heard not many people have pairs whio will raise their fry (thats why every morning when I turn the blue rams light on I'm worried tey might've eaten their babies). Did you breed the gold rams? I'm thinking of trying them when I get more tanks.
Dave+Amy
nope the male (I think) got some sort of disease - like a huge pimple grew on his forehead then it went away then he died I don't have a lot of time these days for breeding, trying to get good enough marks for Masters in my degree, might even have to do the unmentionable and DOWN SIZE
