Barrie
the box alone would be best (lined with plastic) but looks too big I have one culture in the wooden box I got through Alan and the other in a small poly box(that needs the dirt changed)
oeminx
Ok i might make up anothe smaller wooden box. they need to be blacked out aye?
Dave+Amy
yup I keep my box under the laundry sink - keeps the smell out of the house and from what I remember they don't like heat either...mine love grated apples!
alanmin4304
I would use the box and line it with plastic over the bottom and 3/4 of the way up the sides then fill with moist spent potting mix. Cut a peice of glass 1/4 size of box, add whiteworms, feed with luncheon, keep cool and away you go. I have three that size plus one the same as Barrie's and it gives you the chance to build one up while feeding from another.
oeminx
does it have to be spent potting mix? and alan when you say line with plastic 3/4 an fill with potting mix do you mean fill to the top of to the 3/4 mark. i ask because if it fill all the way the the top 1/4 will rot as the timber is untreated. Caryl
The plastic goes 3/4 up the sides and the mix stays slightly below the plastic top level so it doesn't rot the box.
alanmin4304
The spent potting mix has the nutrient used up and little for the worms to feed on so they have to come up for what you feed them. This makes it easy to get them. See the pics under whiteworms further down this section.
spoon
or use seed raising mix this has no added nutrients

DantezGirl
i have a question......... since most here feed white worms to there fish amphibians ect if you feed the worms the flakes reptile pellets ect would they be a "little" more better for the fish ect since your feeding them what the fish eat?
Stella
I run the plastic all the way out of the box and tape it down on the outside. If they run out of food they tend to go exploring up the sides and this stops them from disappearing down under the plastic.
Barrie
ince most here feed white worms to there fish amphibians ect if you feed the worms the flakes reptile pellets ect would they be a "little" more better for the fish ect since your feeding them what the fish eat? With all the rubbish that goes into flake the reverse could be asked? I dont feed flake at all as I breed all the time In the wild, bugs fall into the ponds/rivers so they wont be fed on anything other than whats handy where the bugs are growing. I feed my worms (as well as Grindle wroms) Lunchon simply because it works really well for me and produces enother to feed as much as I want
alanmin4304
If you are realy up with it you can feed the whiteworms on garlic luncheon and deworm your fish with whiteworms. Tend to not rot as quickly as well. Mine don't get a chance to rot the luncheon is gone in just over a day.
TM
I have put mine in freezer and break a bit off when i want to feed the worms.
alanmin4304
I get mine when on special in the supermarket and put the slices in the freezer with a sheet of plastic between each slice. Best to thaw first I think.
