firenzenz
Whats the filtration like in your tank- these guys come out tiny and are easily sucked up, perhaps turn any internalfiter off or even relocate dad and tube to fry tank with bubbler, if they're in a community ( keeping tube submerged during process) - Well done , they were just waiting for the right sort of cave eh? Guest
Yeah. I'm sure the filter will be fine as I've had newly born platys in there and the filter doesn't suck them up.
Guest
what if he stops fanning the eggs for like a hour? will they fungus or will they be fine?
firefish
if he's still in the cave but not fanning it should be alright, but if he leaves the cave for an hour you'd need to look after them (with an airstone)
Guest
He doesn't stop fanning   He just leaves the cave really easily but ussually only for 10mins at the most.
firefish
my male never leaves the cave while he's got eggs. I try not to get any food near the cave so he's not tempted to leave Have you been putting food near the cave? That could be enticing him out
Guest
I've been putting food by the cave as I thought he wouldn't have to leave then
MarkLB
I've been putting food by the cave as I thought he wouldn't have to leave then I do the same thing. He sticks his head out for a quick munch then he's back in the cave again 8)
Guest
Yeah thats what I hoped mine would do but he hasn't eaten but I still put food there. I should probably stop putting in outside then
Guest
I'm going to remove the eggs. Should I put a drop of meth blue in there?
firefish
I don't put any meth blue in (i have them in a container that shares water with the rest of the tank) But it prolly wouldn't hurt. An airstone is a must cos it fans the eggs. Has your male definitly left the cave?
Guest
yeah he didn't go in for ages but so I took the eggs out and put in a container with an airstone and they all fungused . Now my problem is I moved the cave to get the eggs out and the male hasn't gone in since. will this disturb them breeding again? I'm really worried that they finnally started breeding and I may have ruined it
melrick1
I have done this before, my male GBA left the cave so i did the air stone and breeding trap and the eggs got fungus, however I have done this before which makes me think that they were not fertilised in the first place which can happen. they should be fine next time as long as you keep giving them high protien foods. Guest
What happens to the bad eggs? Do they get fur on them or do they go clear?
Guest
anyone? 1/2 of mine are still good and the other half is clear and one of them has got a black dot on it so are these the eyes?
mr pleco
anyone? 1/2 of mine are still good and the other half is clear and one of them has got a black dot on it so are these the eyes? hey cam yep yr pretty much right clear is unfertilized /fungused is usually fertilized but now bad and black dots are good eggs the male will usually eat or discard the bad eggs (clear or fungisied) to keep the rest viable some ppl try this manually by using twisers as the fungised eggs can start attacking the good eggs BUT in yr case it really needs a steady hand and a bit of experience as you can destroy good eggs in the process just try to keep good airation around the eggs and only seperate bad eggs if they are detached or easy to get to to reduce the risk dont panic this is quite common in first batches and will improve with two things firstly more batches of eggs as experience in the pair grows and probably (just a guess) as less intrusive owner with a torch every 5 minutes looking to see if they have layed eggs good going with the first batch
Guest
So if they have black dots will they deffinately hatch?

Guest
so how long after the eggs appear until they hatch and can they still fungus when they have eyes?
lmsmith
How's the breeding going? Did they hatch?
Guest
Na they all got hairy and stuff. I'm hoping they'll breed soon but I've rearanged the tank so much that I think I might have ruined it
lmsmith
I'm trying to breed my bristlenoses too, but I think I went so over the top with caves that food was getting stuck under them, and 2 of my big ones died I'd love babys, but they just don't seem to work for me either!
