Yes it was. Lots of plant, some floating, will help you save the fry.

I have hundreds of guppies and the big females lay over 100 at a time. The females are much more likely to eat the babies than males - because they want to prevent other genes I guess. If you separate the mother, more will survive.

I tend to just leave them in a well planted tank with lots of Java Moss, and enough survive to make me happy.
