Sweet as. You've ahd them for a while haven't you. The smallest platy that I've seen that developed his "add on bit" was about 8mm and was trying to breed with my 5cm female it was the funies thing to watch. He must have bred with her too because all her babies looked like him and he was the only one that looked like that in the tank :o:o . Also some female platys that haven't had babies can change to a male so thats another thing to watch out for if you buy a female (so many times I'bve brought a female because I had too many males and it turned into one)

I was explaining the difference to my ten year old daughter as she has guppys.I told her the boy has a stick that goes from side to side when chasing girls. And the girls have triangle's i will have to tell her the proper name.I cant have her having a talk in class calling it a stick or triangle  But i think that would be better than penis or wotsit  gonopostium is the name people  :bounce:

Should I be concerned at the sex ratio with my 4 platies? If there's, say one female and four males, will she get too much attention or will the males fight to establish dominance?

They are quite charming little fish I'm finding, really inquisitive and they like playing in the current :)

  I agree Cheesejawa, I prefer wotsit too  And  mumzy, stick and triangle... you will get odd looks from the teacher I am sure

skaffen - I would have more females in the tank, gives the one female a rest... 1 female to 4 males probably is pretty full on for her... 8)
