Cheesejawa
I woke up this morning to find one of zebra danios dryed up on the floor. It was one of my first fish and I havent had anything die for a long time. I am quite sad about it actually. The other one now seems very sad and loanly, tryed to play with the lemon tetras now. I knew danios were known to jump but is there any thing that triggers them to like stress or boredom?
Ira
Stress, boredom, hunger, movement, food, hapiness, water movement, bubbles, lack of bubbles, lots of light, little light and the sky being the wrong shade of blue.
SpidersWeb
I haven't had a problem with jumping danios, but they do strike me as the type of fish that would. Could be any reason. Sorry for your loss, but only real solution is to cover your tank a bit better and get some new little guys. Doesn't sound like a stress problem to me from what you said, probably saw a sandfly and went 'oh yum'. My ex keeps a danio on its own, I was concerned at first but he's actually quite a happy fish. Greats her at the front of the tank, and has little spats with the Blue Rams. Sounds like your guy is doing the same with the tetras. Nana Luke
One of my danios got a bit curious when i was doing a water change with a piece of hose the other day. Swam up to the end of the hose and got sucked in by the current - watched this little fish go through this tube and end up in the bucket i was emptying to. was hilarious haha. he was ok though. Gutted to hear you had a suicide!
Cheesejawa
Yeah Ive covered the hole in the lid where it jumped out from now. I cant decide if I should get another one but then I am afraid I might end up buying more.
1/2waysgood
Crikey! And after a thread the other day about teaching fish to do tricks, your's just up and does one itself! Sorry about your loss. If your other danio seems okay then let it be. Otherwise, a trip to the LPS might make you feel a little better..... Good idea about the cover
krantan1
I had a similar incident 2day...found one of my mountain minnows dried up on the floor 2day...dunno how she got out though because my lids completely cover the tank!

I knew danios were known to jump but is there any thing that triggers them to like stress or boredom? Sorry to hear about your danio. Yeah it's sad when that happens. I recently got 3 little gold barbs to add to my community tank (already had 4 gold barbs and a bunch of other fish). We went away for the weekend, got home last night and there seem to be only two of the three new gold barbs in the tank. I suspect one of them has jumped, but can't see it anywhere. May be down the back of the tank stand but of course I'm not going to move the stand to look. Yes, we get attached to our tiny wet pets and mourn their passing, no matter how little they are.
