dwalk
I'm setting up a 2 1/2 ft tank to breed Pearl Gourami. I haven't had much success so far, so thought i'd get some advice. How deep should I make the water level? I take it plants and hidey holes are a good idea? A warmer ie 27-28 degree temp is better for breeding them? Any other tips and advice on breeding Gouramis would be appreciated, David
mitzy
Maybe give them some good food like live food or blood worms for a few weeks.

mumzy50
I breed dwarf gouramis.I have floating plants, bare tank bottom.Java moss on bottem.Temp 80,ph 6.8. sponge filter hardly moving surface.Put him in first, for a day, then add her.Do a water change that night.Watch him in case he gets nasty. Its good if you can feed them up on live food before you put them together.I put live food in breeding tank, till i see him building a nest.Get some inforsoria going so its ready when those babies are free swimming.Good luck
purplecatfish
Get some large leaf indian fern for them to bubble nests under. It's the floating plant that my Dwarf Gouramis prefer.
caserole
I breed the pearl G's in between 200 and 250mm of water in a 220x600mm tank. Defiantly use a bare bottom tank and hope you are not overly successfull. As they are very prolific. Don't forget they are softer bodied then other Gouramis so when you move the fry to bigger quarters do not be tempted to net too many in one hit you may damage them. dwalk
Thanks Casserole, I'll be setting up the breeding tank tomorrow, will use an sponge filter, that should be ok?
caserole
Yes, to begin with. When you fell you may need a large filter keep the old one going until the new one has been going for a while so you don't get problems. One thing with gouramis is that you need a good lid,it will keep the air above the water warmer and have a higher humidity then out side the tanks environment, this is important when the babies start breathing air.
