Pegasus
We seem to have a large number of fish breeders that specialize in certain species. Would it be possible to compile a list that can be located at the head of this section that would give all the contact details for the relevant breeders? Any Suggestions? Warren
Sounds pretty good to me. I don't know how it would be done so we can easily get in to update it. Would be best if it was in a list form where each person can update their bit as needed. Maybe Cees can suggest how to do it based on the technical limitations of the system. Put me down for starters!
Bruce
Well I dont know about specialist fish But I do breed Guppys (Well they do it themselves really, dont take too much encouragement do they.....) Maybee a monthly report from Kelly's Database would be a good start with new breeds and re breeds and who has bred them MTCW anyway
Pegasus
Quite right Bruce, there is an excellent list of breeders of various species listed on the FNZAS.ORG site, and it may be possible through the various clubs to contact these people as needed. If interested breeders were willing to be added to a handy list here in the NZFR, along with details of how they could be contacted, it would assist many of the members, not only in disposing and purchasing fish, but possibly in creating more detailed discussions on the aspects of breeding the individual species, provided they were willing to share their knowledge with the rest of us. I for one would love to see detailed post by someone who has bred say Discus, the Catfish, selective line breeding of Guppies and the various livebearers, and so forth. Not just the fact that they have bred them, but "how" they did it. Many spawnings are achieved simply by the act of nature, but "planned" spawnings with a definite end product in mind are topics that would be of great interest to us all. Rob
The breeding pages have not been forgotten (though you could be forgiven for thinking they had). I'll have to remind Cees about the ftp site so I can upload the pages. As for the question about breeding tropical seahorses in the North Island - Greg at Brookfield pet centre (Tauranga) has been breeding the Kuda (sp?) seahorses. cees
The breeding pages have not been forgotten (though you could be forgiven for thinking they had). I'll have to remind Cees about the ftp site so I can upload the pages. With a bit of luck the fnzas site will get a complete revamp before Xmas. Plan is to have the FNZAS breeding scheme online. Hopefully it will have the following features. Club breeding coordinator online submission form FNZAS coordinator submission approvals and maintenance page display pages for breedings per club/species/breeder historic data uptodate scorecard other feature ?? suggestions? Over the last 2 years I have made several starts on converting the ms-access system developed by Kelly to a module that could be integrated in this site. Never finished one though. But now that this site seems to become more useful I'm more motivated to get it done. Rob, can you send me a latest version of the ms-access database (zip compressed ;-) ) I'll contact you about ftp upload of the pages produced by ms-access so we have something to display until the new module is finished. NB: This module (breeding pages) is for the FNZAS breeding scheme. I have no intention to create a 'database' of NZ breeders that are not members of the FNZAS and/or do not participate in the scheme. (I guess http://trademe.co.nz would be the place for these breeders )
Wok
Jaxon There is a place in Awatoto Napier who are breeding Crayfish Paua and I believe Seahorses. you used to be able to fish your own seahorses on to coast of Haumoana close to cape kidnappers. Hope this helps

Straps
Can we have a date when we can expect these pages to be accessible. Whilst we are on the subject of breeding fish, would it be possible to get the FNZAS Breeding Co-ordinator to acknowledge the breedings sent to him from T.A.P.S. It has become increasingly frustrating, sending in breedings and having no acknowledge of whether the notifications have arrived or not. Your prompt attention to these matters would of course be much appreciated.
Alan
Greg Leveridge of Tauranga breeds Kuda Seahorses commercially. He has recently sold out his shop and house, moved a bit out of town, and is continuing with his breeding and exporting. He is apareently the only one in NZ doing the "Tropicals" Alan
Rob
I have replied to Straps apologising for my lack of contact - letting them know that the breedings have been registered - I just need to get the the certificates printed. Would have been nice to have been contacted personally with the complaint.
Caryl
If printing is a problem for you Rob I am happy to do them for you if you just email me the details and I can print the certificates and send them off for you.
ajbroome
Rob said... > Would have been nice to have been contacted personally > with the complaint. It's the usual story, people are quick to publically complain when things don't go *exactly* as they (rightly or wrongly) expect but rather slow to acknowlegde all the good things that go on all the time, apparently un-appreciated. Of course, volunteers are supposed to maintain a high level of motivation and not be distracted by actual real life at all times... Can we say 'burn out'? I thought we could... Andrew.
