evilknieval69
hey nothing wrong with non annuals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol No, not at all
paul_r
although admitedly the rachovii are the best killie ive seen....only juuust in front of the sjo's. The whole waiting 3 months is frustrating, 2 weeks is a good waiting time for eggs to hatch
Barrie
Paul For shear beauty what about the Nigripinnis? With them, depending on incubation temps, they can take up to 4 or 5 months like the Rachovii (20 to 28 weeks) but to put some dirt in a tank and see it start to move then fry is just so neat. evilknieval69
Yea Rachovii are by far my favourite killie, followed closely by the nigs and eggersi. I started out only wanting to do non-annuals, but the shear beauty of the annuals, plus the satisfaction of having them breed in the peat pot, waiting that 3+ months then hatching them out from the 'dirt' as barrie said, is just amazing. Don't get me wrong, i realy like the striatum - they have awesome colours and i will always keep my trio, but i'd prefer some eggersi, nigrippinnis, rachovii, palmqvisti or fuscos anyday 8) Tim said to me the other day that rachovii have a 6 month incubation period.... Man will that be a long wait for me!
paul_r
the nigs are very nice...but i dont have any, nor do i have tank space for them. My favourite that i own are the p82's, i have one huge male who is my favourite fish i own, he is big and stocky and has awesome colors
evilknieval69
mmm nigs are very nice fish. pity they don't show up in photos very well. I've got eggs of nigs too. due to be wet on boxing day  I will be waiting another month or two before i hatch them though, as they require a little more than three months when stored a little colder. cichlid7
thanks i have pm'ed wok about the nzka and will be sorting it out after xmas i have got them in 9 tanks atm 6 have java moss and 3 have mops does it matter what colour the mops are?
paul_r
i used ark green mops, makes it easier to find the eggs.im not sure if the fish have a favourite colour lol
Barrie
when useing java moss beware to make sure you keep the moss in a plastic bag when the mops are in as the fish will lay in the moss as well. Next problem that will cause is moving say the moss from Choc Australe to say Striatum. There will be eggs in it and the female will look very very similar... cross breeding may become a problem. I have moss in with almost all my killis as its a good form of food if Im away (when the fish get real hungry) but when spawning I gather the moss and float it in the tanks that is came from in plastic zip lock bags. cichlid7
i ran out of wool to make the mops with so i put some moss in so they had somewhere to hide but as soon as i make som,e more mops the moss is going in my planted tank
Barrie
its a good idea to soak the mops for quite a while as well Mine (fatre 6 months) still turn the water black Also make them very thickso they can really get into it and if you have a trio, the spare female wont go having a free meal of eggs
cichlid7
i put them in boiling water for an hour then cold for 10 mins then 3 times more.
Wok
I use the polyester wool from The Warehouse. rinse in hot water and no problems with colour leaching into the tanks.
