carla
Somebody sells YELLOW WATER IRISES on trademe. I am very sure that these are the yellow flags which are on the banned list. Have a look and tell me what you think. It seems that some plants have already been sold.
fishandchips
The look just like standard Irises that you would buy at the plant store. Why would they be banned?
livingart
yellow flag iris is a nono banned as an invasive species my purple one is almost as bad
jn
It's not me!!! I had some in a pond at a rental, brought them home when we shut the pond down. Mentioned them here thinking I might sell some and was advised they were a weed/pes (Thank Caryl) So I have killed 2/3rds of them.. keeping a few, but will be deadheading them so they don't set seed and will not pass any on! The 'killed' ones are getting baked in the sun before being added to my compost heap and don't have any flowers so shouldn't contain any viable seed. Caryl
It is the yellow flag iris that is an invasive weed. Iris pseudacorus. Are you referring to the 6 being sold from Westport?
carla
Yes westport caryl. I didn't dare put a link in (cause the last one got removed) so I just copied the title of the auction. Can anybody comment on the auction?
Caryl
I suggest you post a question on there asking if it is the one I mentioned and, if so, did they realise it is a pest plant and illegal to sell?
alanmin4304
A few weeks back someone was selling Lagarosiphon on Trademe so I left a message which was ignored. Sent a message to Trademe and was ignored. Sent an Email to the people who visited re Plantman and it disappeared and they sent me a thankyou email. By then they had sold about six lots all over the country. They had it checked by "their experts at NIWA" and confirmed what it was.

alanmin4304
Usually they don't know what it is. In my case, after a while they added that this is the legal oxygen weed Elodea canadensis (but it wasn't). It is actually the responsibility of the Regional Council in the area it is being sold from. livingart
asked the question reply was basically that they are hybrids
