kd123
I have just set up my new 160lt... It will have an eheim filter appropriate to the size which has new filters.... If I put the small Fluval filter into the tank as well will the bacteria cross over? and can I add the fish from the small tank immediately? The fish are all quite small and young... 2 kribs 1angel 5 rosy barbs 5 golden barbs 1 cory 3 platys

alanmin4304
It can't cycle unless you put some fish in there.
danilada
You can always ask if some-body could cycle your filter media for you.
Slightly Blue Dalmation
id get cheap crappy danios or something first in case they did die as opposed to the fish you want first
Caryl
Put the new filter on the existing tank that has the fish in it. It will cycle there.
Slightly Blue Dalmation
if it an external filter im sure there people in chch that would swap some filter media with you to help it along

kd123
I have three tanks already running.... the fish in one of them need to be transferred to the big one... i guess i can begin by transferring the smaller ones over and let the tank run through it's cycle. My understanding is that this goes quicker with filter media taken from the already established tank? Thanks for your help...
Caryl
Yes you can use some media from the established filters. If the small tank the fish are currently in is not going to be used right away, move the filter over to the new tank too and run it along with the new filter. Saves mucking about with the filter media then.
