anthony law
i had discus and angels togeter,in 500l tank. for years why not have both,
jim r
It has been suggested that discus can catch infection from angels that angels have no problem carrying.
Slightly Blue Dalmation
also it was suggested that needed bout 4 angels and 5 discus to be peaceful which may be pushing it for a tank this size
anthony law
iv never had a problem. as long as you keep your water management up i dont see a problem. two of each in a 200l tank will be find.
sharn
Discus usually require more tank maintenence to thrive but it depends on how you are running the tank. However they are, IMO, much more rewarding to keep than angels- nothing like a big fat saucer or 5 swimming around your tank
Slightly Blue Dalmation
well reading this seems to have not too many issues with mixing them, as if they are tank bred angels not that likely to have diseases. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=259 any further comment much appreciated
sharn
Tank bred angels can still have their fair share of worms and stuff though. The main thing is people just dont want to risk it, discus can be wooses when it comes to getting sick and those angels could still be swimming round like nothings wrong. If you are sure your angels are healthy then there probably arent too many other issues. Ive read some people say angels are more aggressive but discus can most certanly be nasty fish when they want to be (its quite painful to be attacked by an adult male guarding his babies  )! Slightly Blue Dalmation
yea there was another article suggesting that angels arent much more likely to have parasites and discus can have their fair share too, and if too worried just med the angels for a week or 2 before adding them, and other than that there are just the usual possible issues of different fish species. hmm its a toughy
cichlid7
just go with discus they are way cooler than angels 8) 8)
Slightly Blue Dalmation
price is a bit of an issue at the end of the day too
anthony law
if you are upto keeping water etc at 100% ?/ try it . if you do it .you poven them wrong.if you are a true fish keeper it should be a problem. i never had a problem,if you are concern about the angels med them.it wont hurt them.p/s put some plants in the tank discus like some where to hide where they feel safe.and return the discus will show more colour and happier they will be. Slightly Blue Dalmation
yeah its a good point, meds wont hurt anyway and water should be keept prestine for any fish really
Slightly Blue Dalmation
current plan of action. Get half a dozen young angels, quarintine and med them as a precaution (il ask bout how to do that lata ) then wait to get a pair and remove rest while they are still smallish, and then get water quality up to scratch and track down an existing pair of discus and pop them in, and by what ive read should eliminate most issues.. Any thoughts?
cichlid7
i got a better idea  , go to animates
tHEcONCH
You have to consider how much more agressive Angels are too - the Discus may struggle to get enough to eat whilst the Angels get fat. I reckon choose one or the other and tune the tank accordingly - they are both great fish.
Slightly Blue Dalmation
exactly the problem
fulloc
go 4 discus they way cooler and not nearly as hard to keep as many people think. i do a waterchange or 2 per week which varies between 30-50% and my fish are better than any iv ever seen in shops. i feed a cube of bloodworms a day and colourbits whenever i walk past angels get boring after a while, no challenge and usually rediculously tame and keen to breed. also i keep 6 discus 2 plecs and a loach in a 4footx1x1 and theres heaps of space. just get them young at the same size to avoid teritory issues. sharn
usually rediculously tame and keen to breed. So are discus. I cant successfully breed albino cories or bristlenose but my discus wont stop
