I_am_Elmo
So I've just finished my upgrade from 150L to 450L and looked a little empty so I bought a pair of convicts for a bit of fun in my tank. Two days later I have a bunch of eggs under one of the decorations. Something must be going right (I think??)
snookie
cons are always happy to breed ,just add water 8)
evilknieval69
Convicts would probably breed without water :-?
I_am_Elmo
So what should I do now?
Ira
If they're breeding you're doing something WRONG. They'll eventually overrun your tank, jump out and then start attacking and trying to breed with your dog.
I_am_Elmo
Oh? ell, I'll let it go for this time, I have a spare 3ft tank so I could put them in there. Then I may take two males (or females) to keep. Stink, I thought this would be fun.

SpidersWeb
I got a baby convict from fishy-t's feeding supply, grew him up, gave him a girl, and within a week he had eggs! While it is easy, it's still a LOT of fun, they'll try and go you if you get close. I always wind them up. No idea what I"m going to do with all those convicts now I've sold my Jaguar but still an awesome fish. The parents should look after the young very well. David R
Then I may take two males (or females) to keep. Thats the best idea, I'd say keep a couple of males as they get bigger and have better fins etc.
fishy_t
Yeah, it is always fun having a fish that's easy to breed. The best way to keep the population down it to also have a fish which eats them!! Bichirs are good for that!
I_am_Elmo
Well no more babies. The day they were due to hatch, they disappeared I assume they were eaten (that seems to be the way with the first batch). What's funny is now my jewel cichlids look like the are prepping a piece of wood to lay eggs, so maybe a battle royale brewing. I'll probably keep a few more jewels, they're a bit prettier. firenzenz
Convicts and Jewels! Next you'll tell me your day job is as a prison warden! Ha!
I_am_Elmo
Well as I expected, the Jewels are laying a whole bunch of eggs after eating the first 20-30. Best photo I could get http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa13 ... 020138.jpg And I'm not far off a prison warden.
