Just a tip on what I do. I have ripped pieces off old sponge filters & stick them in the gaps. I have a couple of species of fish that like to jump & can fit through small gaps.

Filter floss fills those sneaky corners too, like around those H/O filters.

A garden-hose split lengthwise will block the gap between the lid and the glass sides.
