Nicolette
don't know if this works or not but I was told if you boil driftwood in a bit pot for a while and repeat a couple of times it waterlogs it so it sinks? I am enjoying looking at all the pics and looking forward to seeing some fish in those tanks soon?
evilknieval69
don't know if this works or not but I was told if you boil driftwood in a bit pot for a while and repeat a couple of times it waterlogs it so it sinks? I am enjoying looking at all the pics and looking forward to seeing some fish in those tanks soon? Yep boiling them does help a little bit, but doesnt usually fully sink them. This piece has been in this tank for ages and it was sunken, but i took it out a few weeks ago when re-arranging some fish, and never bothered to put it back in so i let it dry out a bit. It wont take long for it to sink again.... All the tanks now have fish in them, but most are just on holiday whilst there 'homes' get built Im going to rotorua this weekend, and im gunna have a bit of money to spend so will hopefully come back with something exciting nice set up on the cube evil one are you going through the cubism period of your artistic expression? Heh, yer, you could call it that im a bit paranoid about rocks like that , if it falls off that driftwood it will make a window in your tank Its sitting there pretty firmly. What you cant realy see in the pic is the flat top on the DW just where its sitting, and also its a very flat rock.... IMO, if it fell, it wouldnt be big enough to cause any damage anyway.... evilknieval69
Well it seems the breeding tanks are working! My Korthausae yellow killies are spawning hard out, and loving the live food and daily water changes, and i have just found that my Kribs have spawned aswell! The kribs are in a 200 x 300 x 300 part of a divided tank and they were only in there for the meantime whilst i found another tank to put them in but it seems they like the daily water changes because i just found a huge spawn in their pot. Im not sure if it was anything to do with the adition of another male krib in the tank next door to them that would have set them off but they seem to have liked something! Fuzzy pic but you can see some of the eggs and mum In one of the other 200 x 300 x 300 divisions my trio of bronze corys spawned aswell but their eggs fungused so i put a male krib in (as i said) to eat all the fungused eggs, and it was also just somewhere to hold him
evilknieval69
Well things have changed slightly in the fishroom. The big tank (4 footer) needed to be completely re-built as the silicon was giving way and the front pane had a mean bend in it, so i took it out, re-glued it and it is now outside full of water 'testing'. Ive decided though, not to put it back in the room; 1 because i dont trust my siliconing/tank building skills and wouldn't want it to do anything silly in the room, and 2 because i need more space/tanks for killies so im going to get another 6 or so smaller tanks to put on a stand on that side of the room. the 4 footer is now outside, underneath the fishroom windows, with 2 WCMM (which im gunna get more of) and its going to be a WCMM breeding, and Driftwood holding tank. Heres some sketchup pics of what i sorta want, very rough and not drawn to scale You can see the 6 small tanks side by side in this pic, and at the end there is a small 'killi fry rearing' compartment, drawer thingy (killi keepers will understand) This shot shows the other side as it is now. from left to right we have, 2 footer divided into 3(holding 2 pairs of killies and a pair of kribs ATM), another 2 footer divided into two holding two trios of killies, then a 3 footer holding my bigger cichlids, then a small tank, about the size of the 6 that i want, holding about 50 baby BN, about a week old. Will post real pics once things start to happen

evilknieval69
Just re-read through the whole thread and realised on the first page that i said i was only going to have 7 tanks in there (thats including all the divided parts).... that quickly jumped up to 8, and soon its going to jump up to 13, then hopefully 15 if i have enough glass to build some bigger killie growout tanks to go under the 6 breeding tanks........ Plus the two in my bedroom.... Plus mums two..... 19 tanks in the house! man
evilknieval69
Another pic to make the thread interesting. I numbered the tanks in paint so i can tell you all whats in them! 1. about 15 baby Baby platys 2. pair of Kribs 3. pair of fundulopanchax gardneri albino (i think thats what they are :-? ) 4. 3 Female Guppys 5. Trio of Nothobranchius Korthausae yellow 6. Trio of Chocolate Australe 7. My cichlids (firemouths, bichir, uaru, hoplos etc) temp tank, their old tank went bust! 8. 4 male guppys and 7 medium sized platys (the platys are the same as the ones i have for sale but are ones that im growing up for breeders)(guppys are there to separate from fems) Next up on the list is to get the other side of the room going. Getting 6 small killi tanks to sit on a stand!!!
