paul_r
I am in the process of setting up tanks to breed killis for fun and am very new to it. I have one tank set up for Nothobranchious Korthause yellows and is getting along great. My next tank setup will be for some Australe golds, i believe they are mop spawners. What does everyone use for the mops? and how can i make them or where could i buy 1 or 2 Thanks
alanmin4304
I use synthetic wool threaded through a small fishing net float and hanging out both ends---easy to sterilize.
paul_r
have been searching the net and found a very interesting website, very useful and simple to follow instructions on how to make a spawning mop http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/bre ... g_Mop.html
Alan
Paul, don't tie that top-knot thing on top. It's a complete wast of spawning area. The piece that you tie the strands together while wrapped around the book, is the piece to work with. Tie it tightly around the strands, tie the ends of it together, Then cut directly opposite where you've tied them together. I use a small block of polystyrene for float. Caryl
Haven't you got an old woolly jersey with a loose thread?
paul_r
hehe nope i have got nothing i could substitute at the moment, i dont think cotton or that poly prop stuff would be any good , im in no rush to get everything together, will be a while until i get a breeding tank setup for my australe golds. Just had a nasty suprise when i woke up this morning to find that 5 of my 8 notho's were dead in their new breeding tank. Will get round that problem first

Wok
use synthetic wool.. Don't use real wool as this will degrade. using a darker colour wool helps identify where the eggs are too.
