eben
How do you keep you PH high? I've got dolomite mixed with my gravel but that only buffers it to about 7.8 I've acquired some Frontosas and I'm actually considering getting rid of all my Malawis and just collecting Tangs. How do all you Fronts fanatics keep the PH around the 9 mark (tangs require ph around 9 right?)?
Tu
I have coral bits in my filter. Dolomite rock and i use tonic salts aswell, all this keeps my tank at a ph of 9
jim r
When you say "Tangs" I assume that means Tanganyika cichlids if so I do believe they come from 7.8ph - 9ph which would be an acceptable parameter.
Afrikan
I use Bicarb, Epsom Salts recipe mix in African tanks that a certain person here gave me Gee saves on money for buffers put on the market.. Also use aragonite substrate.
eben
Aragonite on it's own would probably keep the ph at around 7.8 too (I've got another couple of tanks with both dolomite and aragonite). I'm curious since I've read that a lot of people use sand as substrate in the tang tanks. Whats the best method for these guys? I would prefer a low maintenance setup. Also would 7.8 be optimal for these guys or would they do better in higher ph?
PETEYPLECO
Dont know about how high it would go but I used a small amount of crushed oyster shell in a media bag in my external filter to keep a constant 7.2 ?
fishy_t
I only use limestone, keeps the pH at 8.2 which is plenty Aragonite is great but I've never used it - doesn't look very natural!
