sub.z
Is it brought or can you get it off the beach?
Caryl
I get all mine from Hokitika beach. It has wonderful waterlogged rata and rimu washed down from the rivers. All I do is give it a squirt with the hose and scrub out the holes and add it to the tank.
sub.z
Okay cool Do you know of anywhere on the east side that has it? Can you buy it in pet stores? Id rather get it gor free tho
bdspider
You can buy in petstores, but it's not that cheap + the nicest pieces always seem to be the ones you find yourself. Anytime you go visiting a lake in the Southern Alps, look out for bits.

bdspider
What do you need to do with wood from beaches to make it safe for tanks?
Caryl
As I said, I don't do anything except hose it down and clean out the crevices.

Adrienne
Go have a look along the Temuka riverbed next time you're heading that way. Thats if its rained lately. If you're looking along beaches have a look around the Normanby? Sorry I think thats what its called, have been out of Timaru for a while, but anywhere thats exposed would do.
