The person has withdrawn the auction. It appears that he is a school student and propable don't know any better.

This is the biggest problem we face. The public has no idea what is and isn't allowed in most cases. The information is available but you have to check it first.

As there has been almost no public education to the problem of unwanted organisms in NZ most people do not know about them. Then, when you do go looking for the information it is very very difficult to find...

And if you find any info then the names are often muddled up.

Think about the Vallisneria and some other plants.

One info says they are unwanted.

The other info says they are prohibited.

Then someone sells them in the petshop (one of the huge ones in Auckland) without knowing any name for it at all saying this is "eelgrass" and yes its legal... "we wouldn't sell any plants that are nor legal" - without even knowing the Latin name of it.

How would Joe Bloggs know any of that?

To be precise, it is GIANT val that is in the lake and other locations.

THAT is the bad one, but as the inspectors don't know what they are looking for they blame all of the vals.

Well some of the inspectors, I'm sure there must be some educated ones out there.

There are no such thing as cold water guppies! All it means is that guppies can cope with cooler temperatures (down to 15 - 18C). This does not make them cold water fish, despite often being sold as such
