Joze
WELL.........The top one is a gold severum, male I think, well my nmales are the only ones coloured up with the worm-like markings. Dont have a clue on the bottom ones.

ajbroome
Pegasus said... I'd go with the top one being a severum, the bottom ones look like green chromides to me but a lot of juvenile cichlids look similar... Andrew.
Alan
Good sniffing Joze looks like you could be correct with the salvins. While we are admiring the fish on the link that joze put up for us. Does anyone have any of them for sale, Salvini that is. To be precise, a male one would be really fine. How do you sex them? The male has a black patch on his gill operculum. So that makes the #one flick is a pic of a male. TIA Alan
Joze
SNIFFING???? herefishiefishie
Female salvinis are nicer, have more red on there bellies & they keep more of the yellow body colouring. I have a pair breeding here, fry are only 2 cm at the moment, pity I am here in Aussie I have a spare female too.Just in case  You are right about the spot on the gills,(female) females are smaller too; Also females have a blue-edged black blotch on the middle part of the dorsal fin, once a pair is established they are good breeders & good parents too, Mine have a 4 footer to themselves The top pic in photo is a male severum(gold)the bottom pic has me beat, not salvini, post the pic on the cichlid forum here in qlds I am sure someone could ID them for you. Ira
I'm surprised you didn't recognise the severum, Pegasus.
Pegasus
I'm surprised you didn't recognise the severum, Pegasus Never gave it a lot of thought really, I was just asked to ID them (late at night) and wanted to be sure. Over thirty years since I kept Severums, and am not really up with the present variations of most Cichlids. Thanks for all the interest guys
Midas
Defintely not salvini's, good luck finding some though, if you have any luck I'd be interested too. I've been looking for some for a couple of years now. Pegasus, have you got any more pics of them? Almost looks like some kind of hybrid. How big are the fish in the picture? Pegasus
Hi Midas, I have no idea as the pics were taken by a friend of mine who was in Jamaca. (I too thought there might be a bit of mixed strain in them)
Pegasus
More info... It appears that the fish were labeled.. "Centeratus" in the store. This convinced him that it is "centrarchus." Thanks again guys
Midas
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?ID=26765&genusname=Archocentrus&speciesname=centrarchus That label makes sense as (after some investigation) the fish appears to be Archocentrus centrarchus. A relative to the convict cichlid. See the above link and click on "Google images" for some pics.
