bulldogod
Is it OK to do a big water change, over 50 %???? Due to long work hours and laziness, my tank is really dirty and I have to do a big clean but bit worried about taking out so much water???
alanmin4304
I often do 50% water changes without problems. If you want to do more you could remove 75% and replace 25% and the rest the next day.
Afrikan
I have at times done 50% water change myself and never had a problem. Usually when I want to do a crash spawn attempt.
rcon021
Every weekend i do 50$ waterchange. Fish really like it, only thing is when you are adding water back into the tank do it slowly over a period of time and not in 5min i usually do it over 20-30+ min
Caryl
My Africans always got 50% water changes (when I got around to doing water changes). Not only that but they were from the garden hose hauled through the window. The fish didn't seem to mind the change in pH or temperature and liked to play in the strong current from the trigger gun attachment on the end of the hose. dimebag
go for it bulldog. if u have fish that may be a bit sensitive to change in ph/temp then do as rcon says and refil over half hour or so. as caryl said some fish enjoy playing in the cold current. smidey
i do about 40% changes every week on both african & community tanks although I did a 85% water change last weekend by mistake. I put the syphon in the tank & pipe out the window & left it as it takes a while to syphon 80L. I went off to rinse the wet/dry filter pads, got talking to my son about something then realised what was still happening. Rushed back to find my two large angels in just enough water to cover their heads. Phew disaster diverted.
aae1
Hi Bulldog. Go for it. You shouldn't encounter any problems. Malawis are hardy fish. Ive been known to do 100% water changes (fish caught and put in buckets) with no evident effect to the fish. Not sure about the temperature change though as Ive always filled my tanks with water around the 26 degrees mark.
