Caryl
They do get fat with eggs. If there is no male she will absorb them eventually.
shelzie
even after 5mths?
Caryl
She might be producing new and absorbing them constantly. I don't keep them myself so am not talking from experience. If the fish is eating well and behaving normally then I wouldn't be concerned, otherwise I would attempt to squeeze her myself.
meesheelly
i have 4 girls and a lazy boy and they get fat with eggs and then realise hes not building a nest and they go down again, then it happens all over again.
Adrienne
Yes, they do get fat with eggs, but if they are fat (overweight) as well quite often they can't release their eggs when the male squeezes them, or the male can't wrap tightly enough around. Adrienne
The other fish in the photo looks like a male - might just be a long finned female though - and if she's in with a male thats hanging around her she will egg up a lot and eventually release and eat them. Female fighters always carry eggs because in the wild they have to be ready to reproduce whenever they find a male fighter.
Gatito
lol some of those "bursting" comments are a bit funny. I've never seen a female THAT swollen with eggs though. A pair i have that spawned got put back in the community tank afterwards, and he's started chasing her and she's really full at the moment, but not that big... Makes me wonder if it is just eggs... Alan
It is possible for the eggs to calcify at the vent, then without removal, she will be no good for breeding purposes.
Adrienne
I've never been able to get a female fighter that big to successfully spawn.
