sharronpaul
Sounds weird, but in our six footer we have two chocolate cichlids and two green sevs (along with a big plec and an aro) and one of the sevs have paired up with one of the chocs, and are heartily defending their territory from everyone else in the tank. Has anyone else seen this?

Afrikan
I have a big Chocolate Cichlid breeding pair... I had them housed out at my hubbys work in the 1500 litre display tank and a female severum took interest in the Chocolate Cichlid male, as far as I know as I have been told... they can breed together, YIKES My Chocolate pair are currently on lend to a guy who wants to breed them. So thankfully no Sev x Chocs even had a chance of being produced
caserole
A person in the kapiti club had a convict and firemouth breed, the off spring were infertile and were the shape of firemouths but the colour of convicts.
sharronpaul
Thanks for your commets, guys. They are still fairly inseprable, but at this stage I can't see any eggs or fry - just seems really wrong, the choc is about twice the size of the sev (bloody cradle-snatching chocolate)
Afrikan
 Maybe hes in a midlife crisis and having some sort of flirtation...
Wok
I did have a chocolate cichlid that protected gourami fry. Even the daddy gourami got chased away. Unfortunately in the evening something ate the fry
Afrikan
 Cunning, he gave the fry a false sense of security then scooby snacked them later on.. crafty fish
Wayne n Kell
I've got a female jag who has paired up with my parrot cichlid, funny as a fit to watch.

Billaney
Update - They have spawned, female choc is guarding the eggs, not letting anyone near. Awesome Paul , Will be very interesting to see what colours come out .
sharronpaul
Eggs still there thismorning, now been a couple of days. About 1.5mm in diameter, and a tan colour. Fairly sure it won't be a choc-choc spawn, I think they're both females.

sharronpaul
Yeah, seemed quite novel to have our own chocolate fish factory But, alas, all gone tonight when I looked. Next time I might pull them out and put them in a separate tank just to see how they go.
sharn
could be a way to get out giving real chocolate eggs to the kids for easter
