Ira
Spur of the moment since my Pleco died yesterday and of course that means I now have room for another fish. And I was out looking for another aquastop for my 404 which is leaking. Anyway, saw this pretty fish for $10.95, grabbed it, took it home and look up Gold Saum...Uhoh, AKA Green Terror, that doesn't sound good maybe I shoulda done a bit of research first. Though, from what I've read green terrors aren't too aggressive and he's in with my Geophaguses and Severums, so if he acts up maybe they'll put him in his place. Goldie
and did you manage to get the part for your filter after all that
Ira
Hehe, Yup, got him at twiglands. They had two and I'm pretty sure the one I got is a male, the other might have been a female, maybe I should have grabbed it too. Oh well. No, didn't get the piece, I've got Paws and Claws in Upper Hutt getting it for me. Was great timing when I went in actually, the Rep was there. I'm actually getting a bit of an upgrade, the old one is the one with a single lever that automatically cuts the water flow off when you disconnect it. I'm getting the newer one that has a seperate lever to shut off the water. It flows somewhere around 200L/hr better when I tested it a while ago. Midas
My aquastop is broken also. I've got a temporary fix up job in place at the moment. How much did it cost for a new one? I broke off one of the two pieces that the tubing connects to. The other unbroken piece is cracked and is leaking slowly. The filter lives in a bucket at the moment. Ira
I didn't actually bother to ask how much it would costs since I have to get it anyway. I'm guessing around $70. I considered putting my filter in a tray and covering the crack in superglue. The crack is on the ribbed piece the hoses slip onto which is why I thought I'd probably be ok because the crack is INSIDE the hose. But nope...It drained about an inch of water from the tank in less than an hour which would probably overflow anything I could put the filter in overnight. Midas
ok, mine only leaks very slowly. The rate of evaporation from the bucket is greater than the speed at which it leaks. When I enquired about a new aquastop the shop said about that they had got one in a while ago and thought it cost about $20-30, which I thought was ok. Let me know how much it ends up costing, I think at $70 I'll just repair it myself!
Ira
The reason I say $70 is because I asked about the price of the hose connectors for an Eheim with the hoses to match a 403(To replace the crappy 403's) and it was $80. So I thought the Fluval's might be as much, though eheims are a LOT more expensive and it's better to be pleasantly surprised if it's cheaper. Midas
Out of curiosity, how were you planning on attaching the Eheim hose connectors to the 403?
Ira
Remove fluval connectors, replace with eheim connectors. I dunno if you've seen a 403? It's got the hose attached to the top of the cannister, a couple inches of hose, a connector that splits in half with shut off valves on each side and then the rest of the hose. Joze
replaced mine not so long ago..was $25 for the connector
Midas
I've got a 403 and it doesn't have any connector in the hose. All it has are two ball valves on each pipe. I got this filter second hand though so I'd say the previous owner has modified it and replaced the connector you mehntion with these valves. Ira
The connectors mine has are connected together by a hexagonal cylinder bit that you push both into and then try and twist it about 90° to lock and tighten them together. I suppose mine could be the wrong pieces too, because it's also secondhand. No, wait, here we go, I found a picture.
Ira
Ok, grabbed a second one. Hopefully it's a female. It's smaller than the definite male I've got and its forehead is a lot less red and she's a lot darker in color overall. Hopefully it's because it's a she and not just due to being younger. Guess we'll see in a year or so. The filter part was $22 and change. I walked in again just when the rep was there and I heard the owner, the rep and an employee in a room behind the register saying, "Who is this piece supposed to be for? I don't know, it doesn't have a name for it!" And a guy comes walking out holding it. Hehe.
Midas
my 403 doesn't look like that, the previous owner has defintely done some DIY and brought two plastic ball valves from somewhere to replace all that stuff abouve the filter.
