wasp
Yes the Salifert one is similar to Rowaphos, although Rowaphos claim there is a difference.

reef
Hey James are your sps still bleaching IF someone ask you to put a sps coral in your tank which has rtn. you run for cover. It can start to effect other sps coral. White band disease is a pain.

White band disease is a pain. If a mate asks for help I help him, and when 80% of my coral/frags came from him its the least I can do. The affected coral of mine came from james about 3 months ago and I'm trying to help him diagnose the prob. I got the frags before he fluidized the carbon and this might help him narrow down on what the real cause was...
chimera
cheers shane. if any more of those acro's of mine are receding, chuck them out. the pink poc is gone - thats the biggest downer, was a stunner ps: come over for a beer dude

chimera
well it's too early to say really. i've ripped out most dead acro's. lps are "ok", not as fully expanded as i would hope for. however in saying that, the pink monti digitata frag i got off wasp (cheers mate!) has started to go an insane pink in some areas of it. not sure if its just coz it was like that before (wasn't when it first went in the tank) or whether its starting to colour up or just found its balance. have to aquascape again, thats the part that'll take some thought

chimera
pink monti of wasp's i got about 4-5 days ago only seems to have polyps at the tip now, the rest of it (base) looks "fuzzy" ? i must get a photo of it tomorrow night. i am seriously thinking there is something decaying in my tank now
wasp
Doesn't sound good. What % of water have you changed out so far?
Fay
i am seriously thinking there is something decaying in my tank now Wouldn't that show on a test? spike of nitrite nitrate
TM
How old are you test kits? Do you keep them cool? I had a problem with some of mine, think the heat hurt them???????
chimera
What % of water have you changed out so far? 90% Will be doing another 50% tonight. Test kits are ok - they expire ages away. Could be heat, it's a reasonably hot room. Will take a sample around to someone else's house to get it checked out. Picking it's something outside of the "normal" test kits (ie: not nitrate, nitrite, phosphate) Ca, kH, pH are ok, Mg is a little on the low side (run out of Mag chloride) but not enough to kill acros. Real weird. Fish are all mint. Only coral that has not been effected AT ALL is a green hydnophora. Monti cap has died too.
Ira
Sounds sort of like what happened to my tank. All the fish were fine but the corals were all dying everywhere. Though...I've lost my yellow tang in the last couple days. Seriously getting to the point of wondering why I even bother with this hobby... Maybe I just need a lot more frags. My kit expires in like 2009, brought a new one and the nitrate was thru the roof. Just a thought anyway Have you thought about heavy metals?? Do you use NSW, maybe some hydrocarbon?? Crabs, worms??? Roundup? I have no idea just throwing ideas out there
chimera
Maybe what are you dosing with e.g.Coral food/ chemicals/ maybe somethings not right there. dosing NOTHING for ages. nothing at all. not even carbon. only using skimmer and lighting. Have you thought about heavy metals?? Do you use NSW, maybe some hydrocarbon?? Perhaps. Yes, use NSW. Managed 150 litre change tonight. Still need to plumb up the 1,000 litre tank to make it easier. Had to do it by bucket again tonight which is a pain! Anyways, we're considering moving to Tauranga, if we do I'll be selling up a heap of stuff. Start up again mid next year. Who knows, just keeping options open at the moment.
