Saxsena
Hi I am new to Bettas. I have got two males in a tank, coz separated with a tank separater. These beauites are 4 months old. I tried to feed them freeze dried bloodworms (mosquitoe Lava), but they dont seem to like it. I read on the net that its best food for them. They prefer Betta flakes above that. Why! Also do they like Brime Shrimp? I am thinking of getting the breeding utensil.

meesheelly
mosquito larvae are the little wriggly ones that you get in ponds and stagnent pools of water. Apparently fish like them to.
smidey
I tried the freeze dried worm cubes that are supposed to suction to the glass in my community tank. Angels, gaurami, tetras, skunk & clown loaches etc & they all had a taste but no more. Smidey
SpidersWeb
Those are Tubifex worms. Only fish I have that bothers eating those cubes is the oscar and thats only because I trick him. Dried Bloodworms were popular but didnt create a stir. All my fish love the frozen bloodworms, one of my firemouths jumped out of the water to grab it off me yesterday. You cant buy it in shops or anything but i had lots in a bucket of water outside not long ago. It was a bucket of water sitting beside my whiteworm culture, i used to chuck the old bread from the WW's into the water and it got REAL disgusting which i think the bloodworms must love because the bucket was full of them..... AMAZONIAN
Better fed Betta's prefer Daphnia. Frozen Bloodworms are ok but I feed Daphnia most of the time. Mosquito larvae are good too, but make sure they are all eaten or you will have house full of uninvited, unwanted guests. I breed a lot of Betta's and thats what works for me. Try it. Gatito
I'm a bit late on this but my bettas LOVE brine shrimp!!! I'd get them in a syringe and let a drop hand from the end, and they'd be so keen that they'd jump up and *CHOMP* the whole drop!!!
alanmin4304
You can train fish to eat almost anything but they don't generally go for new food if you keep giving them the food they are used to. If you stop the normal food and then feed the new stuff when they are hungry they might get he habit. Frozen food is more attractive than freeze dried (until it has soaked up some moisture and become reconstituted ). Live food is best of all because fish have a natural instinct to snap at moving food.
