Knight
Hey, were fairly new to the aquatic world of keeping fish and have been to many pet stores well most that we no of in the lowernorth island area found most not to be up to the cut. Two great stores that i enjoy are The Pet house in Coastlands and Wet pets in Palmerston north not only beacuse they're the only Marine places that i no of but also beacuse they're never to busy to help you with what ever problems you have, you know, unless there busy. Just hopeing that anyone can give me a hand in finding other great pet stores or specialists in the lower north Island. Cheers Josh, p.s Anyone had a bad experience with Animates? P.s.s. I think that this web site should have like a pet shop review thread, who do i see about that??(or is there one that i don't know of?) Modern Angl
Can't just say Petshop XXXXX is crap, as the FNZAS and the individual who said it would be quickly sued by said petshop, lets just say there are good and not so good pet shops out there, buyer discretion is advised. Caryl
If people praise the good shops regularly others will soon work out which are the bad ones without their names being mentioned at all and lawsuits avoided

Alan
I personally see nothing wrong with giving your own experience of what actually happened to you in a shop. Don't give opinions. For instance, last time I went to Auck., I went out of my way to drive all the way to Silverdale, to call into a shop there. It is a large shop but didn't have many customers, but it appeared to have an abundance of staff who preferred to chat amongst themselves. But after spending more than half an hour in the fish area with no one coming forward, I decided I'd go back to Albany where I was welcomed while looking at their shop. Next time, I know where I won't be going, but I hear there is another shop not far from there tho. Alan

I was sent to Paraparaumu to obtain something I was looking for. The shop I went to had tanks so green and thick that I couldn't find the fish. I was horrified to think that this might be the only place I could find to buy what I wanted. No way did I want to support a shop like that. Luckily I was in the wrong shop and soon found the right one. The only thing the first shop did was make me vow never to return and sent me looking for the other. So I guess the bad business is good advertising for the good in a roundabout sort of way. Keeps everyone on their toes.
SpidersWeb
There is two stores in Paraparaumu? I've only been to the one at Coastlands, while it did have an algae problem, I have heard good things in regards to customer service and fish health. I've only personally got one pair of fish from them, some teenage gold severums, price was great and fish were healthy and the service was great plus he gave me a bit of history and knew his fish, so they did get my thumbs up, although 20 minutes with an algae scraper would help lol I haven't been there in a few months though, might have been cleaned, no harm to the fish though, what I watch for is ammonia or bacteria build ups (white/smelly), dead fish in tank and diseased fish. Some stores have more problems with these issues than others. Just wanted to post the up-sides to Coastlands because I had a good experience there. I do miss Hamilton though, the Goldfish Bowl was awesome although they didnt have a giant gourami that tries to eat me, decisions decisions

Jacko
I agree with Alan & Poppy. Reporting your experience, as long as it's factual, shouldn't breach any laws. After all Fair Go pretty much does the same. I recon an opinion is also valid as long as the author states its their opinion.
