  1. I have 6 in a tall tank(900mm) but im changing to a long tank (1220) 366 litres. The problem with tall tanks is doing any work or cleaning on the bottom of them. My Discus thrive in the tall tank but every other discus ive seen in stores are in long tanks.
  2. Mines at 29 degrees celcius which is somewhere near 85 i think. The other species of fish adapt.
  3. I have a Fluval with 4 chambers and the brickets i think you mean are pre filter things for large matter only. I think you should definitly have Carbon in there as well for the small stuff.
  4. I'm changing to a larger tank. Can i just syphon say half the water from the old tank into the new tank and then put the filters and Fish in or do i need to cycle it? My old tank is 66 gallons and im going up to 80
  5. I have never done a PH test or any water test in fact. All i do is change about 25%of the water each week and add some stress coat at water change.
  6. I am real tempted to buy from the Discusman but im realy uncomfortable with our local Fastway branch. They have lost or delayed so many parcils of mine i just dont trust them. I purchased the Discus I have from a Chch guy (privatly) for $5 each.
  7. I have 6 Discus in with Gouramis, Neons, Mollys, and a couple of Platys, I also had a Betta but he passed on unfortunatly. There has been no inhouse fighting and even the Betta left them alone. Maybe further down the track i will give them there own tank but in the meantime thay are all doing fine and i really cant see why with the right peaceful fish in uncrowded conditions they cant be kept in a community tank.
  8. I have a sunset Gourami that chases my Blue Gourami all day long however the blue isn't stressed at all however i do have a few good hiding places for it. I also have a Betta that dosnt bother any fish. I tend to think some fish are just weaker from poor breeding.
  9. Ive used beach stones before with no problems, I did wash them for quite a while though.
  10. Can i just clarify something here, Putting silicon on your finger and smearing it over the leak on the inside of the tank. Can this be done under water or do you have to drain the tank?
  11. Yea but i still want an answer. Are the 4 plastic tube things in a Fluval Filter for extra media?
  12. Sorry my size is wrong its 360 litres and theres lots of room for fish. I didnt ask for critisism i asked for instructions on a filter. The Discus are doing fine and yes the temp is at 29 degrees. I'm oxegenating the tank and it has a Fluval 4 filter which is powerful. The chap i bought it off hadnt cleaned the filter in a month and i didnt clean it before i set it up as i wanted the bacteria in the tank. It was a few weeks before i put the Discus in and there happy as. I only wanted to no if the 4 plastic filter sections in the filter are supposed to have extra filter material in them.
  13. I paid $39 for Discus in a Chch fish shop and traveled for 3 hours before putting them in my tank. They are all fine 3-4 weeks later.
  14. Further to the filter clean, as i purchased this tank and filter secondhand ive a couple of questions regarding the filter. When i took it apart there was a foam filter surronding four plastic tube sections. The thing is am i suposed to have media or charcoal inside these plastic sections as they were empty at the time? Oh yea its a Fluval 4 internal filter. Thanks in advance.
  15. Yes all the advise has been of great help. My tank is huge 66 gallons and i waited a week before adding 2 platys that both survived before adding more fish each week. In this order 2 Discus and 11 neons. Then the 4 gourami and a Fighter.ive lost 1 neon and the 2 gourami only. And now ive added 6 more Discus.
  16. Yes and both the Gouramis were purchased at the same time from the same shop, and 2 other gourami purchased elsewhere on the same day are fine.(touch wood).
  17. Ive had this setup about a month only. However 20 years ago i had a tank with 30 tropical fish in it for years. Never added a thing to the water then and never lost a fish.
  18. Bugger! I've never added any chemicals to the water. I shall start doing this immediatly. PS One of the Gourami was playing possum but seems very sick. Lays on the bootom and then swims to the surface flat out for a breath and then drops to the bottom like a stone. Ive now isolated him but should i just put him out of his misery or wait.
  19. Ok but if thats the reason how come my water changes havn't done any harm. Because ive done a few 20% changes direct from the tap without a problem although this was the first filter clean. I have read a few threads on here that say Gourami are hard fish to keep. Would the fact that my Siamese fighter spends a lot of time chasing them have anything to do with it. IE: were they just stressed. The thing is im unsure if i should get more Gourami.
  20. I removed it from the tank and rinsed it under running water.
  21. Ok i have a problem now. I cleaned my filter and changed 20% of my water and the next morning i had to dead Gourami. I had 4 in total a Gold one a Blue one and a pair of Reddish ones. The reddish ones have passed away. After the filter clean and water change they spent the day at the top of the tank gulping air and struggling to do anything. By the next day there gone. What have i done wrong? All the other fish in the tank are fine.
  22. Ok then that seemed to work. However its not that dark in the tank. Here's the Siamese Fighter that seems to have fallen in love with a Golden Gourami. I may have to get him a couple of girlfriends. (He's trying to wrap his tail around every fish in the tank)
  23. I've tried to take some pics but i dont have a great cam. So lets see if i can get them to show up.
  24. I now have 8 Discus for the social atmosphere. So now i have in a community tank with the Discus, some Gourami a dozen Neons and a Siamese Fighter. Everyones happy and theres been no fin nipping yet.
