  1. Bogwood is good for keeping a steady low PH level
  2. Yea i wouldn't be worried about a PH of 7.2
  3. Ive started pre soaking all the food to soften it. There now seems to be less spitting and more eating.
  4. Magnificent, can i borrow your camera.
  5. And a Blue Diamond i think. I also have 6 Turquoise.
  6. My Red Melon and Orange Marlbora, well at least thats what i think they are.
  7. This is my biggest but i dont have a real good camera so the red and blue colours he shows dont come out very well.
  8. I have a 95 gallon tank with 10 Discus. I syphon out about 12 - 15 gallons 2 to 3 times a week straight out the window. I replace with a bucket direct from the tap and take the chill of it with a little hot water in each bucket. As thats only 6 or 7 trips from the bathroom it dosnt take long. Less than 30 minutes from starting the syphoning till finished. I put a little Aqua plus in every second bucket just to be safe. Ive been doing this now for 3 months and havnt lost a Fish.
  9. Since that auction i noticed Orandas at Animates went up $10 a fish.
  10. I find a lot of my fish do the spit and re-eat thing, i figure its there way of breaking it into bite sized pieces.
  11. I have a tank the same size and its a pain to clean. Mine has also sprung 3 leaks now 2 of which i repaired and the 3rd was enough to make me scrap it altogether. Im starting to think with the hieght and size of the thing theres just to much water pressure on to many panes of glass. Incidently i had 6 Discus in mine.
  12. A chap that breeds Discus told me i can use tea bags?
  13. I used the 2 net strategy and they both swam into it at the same time. Brilliant.
  14. Sorry they are on trademe and have recieved a bid. The auction closes about 5.45pm Sunday
  15. The thermometer will register a green number representing the temp, I would guess it only goes down to 18 and is probably not reading anything on a goldfish tank. I find mine hard to read and have to shine a torch on mine to see the colour. Colourful fish that get on with each other, Neons Platys Mollies Tetra and a whole host of others, just start with a few and add to them as time goes on
  16. The original Discus are all showing lots of blue in there fins and on there faces, Ive also added an Orange and a Blue Diamond that are in full colour.
  17. so catch them in the dark? Makes a lot of sence.
  18. I have 2 Silver Dollars that im selling on TM because they move to fast and spook the Discus . Ive set up a small isolation tank that i was going to house them in untill they are rehomed. I attempted to net them and cant get anywhere near the suckers and all i'm managing to do is stress out everything else in the tank. Whats the secret to catching the buggers.
  19. Ive also got the same fake corels, the fish love scrounging amongst it.
  20. Ive feed him peas but he hasn't asked for dessert yet and peaches are out of season, i spose i could open a can of watties. I wonder if he wants ice cream with it.
  21. http://www.plecofanatics.com Holy crap i hope mine dosn't get that big

  23. Ok this i had neverheard of and thoughts of the local council hydatis control officer forcing a pill down a tiny Discus throat or heaven forbid up his butt just makes me shudder. But seriously i'm not at all concerned about Johnny 5 as he seems fit and well just a little stumpy and i just wondered if it was a normal occurance.
  24. May I say this is the most imformative thing i have read and very helpful.
