  2. OH MY GOSH, I am so glad right now that I live on the other side of the world or else you folks might want to kill me   I think that's the bottom line Caryl of what I was trying to figure out. Does adding an airstone, except for the extreme Nassau type like gannet's   , cause more "current" than fishies would like, so to speak, and if it mostly just affected the surface of the water, which it sounds like it does!!!!! THANK ALL for your help by the way Caper
  3. I think getting more would help. I know you have real plants, so is there lots of places for them to hide? Caper
  4. Thanks Stella Yes, the glass of the light is blue. So I was also wondering the same was the higher wattage to get through the blue glass? Yes I would think that too, so in the scheme of things I wonder if the 25 watt blue is the same as the 15 watt clear??? They do come out from hiding more when it is on, unless I get to close to the tank then zoom hiding again...they are, as we would say when we were kids, real scardee cats! oh, no pun indended  Caper
  5. Is there any way to tell if the filter is doing, oh heck, filtering the way it should? I have an aqua-tech for 30-60 gallon tanks, and a whisper for 30-60 gallon tank. The whisper is on my barb/tetra tank which I recently moved downstairs in my apartment so naturally noticing more of what is going on now. There is quite a bit of water movement from the aqua but not as much from the whisper...would they not be similar do you think? I don't know how old the whisper is I bought it second hand with the tank and to be honest if I did ask the people how long they had it I don't remember  Caper
  6. Thanks that does help...couldn't think of anything but flow  So then, example Gannet's air stone (NASSAU type  ) it will certainly cause more surface movement, but my question is does that mean there is more "current" for the fish to deal with OR does the air stone just affect the surface itself?? Anybody know what I'm trying to say, I AM confusing aren't I  Caper

    A free tank?

Really like the way you have them arranged and the different sizes! By the way, I like that stand, you said you're getting a new one? I can't even see the hoses now! Great job Caper
  8. danilada...totally awesome The top 2 fishies in second pic, what are they? Oh, I'm all excited...I was ready to ask you if that was a "tire" eel, and I was right, even though I would have spelled it wrong What is the one in the last 2 pics before the 160L? Caper
  9. OHHHHH BlueandKim...daphnia are gross looking...ewwwwwwwww. Will read later, once I can get past the pic   Caper
  10. How's your ammonia? I'm guessing your neons are quite small, how long has your tank been running? You probably could add at least 3 more neons, they do better in a school and the minimum I think is 5/6. Just keep a check on your ammonia and do your regular water changes. Had to use the online converter (brain dead when it comes to metric) so your tank is roughly 10 gallons right? Caper

  16. snookie wrote: Oh my gosh, had to go look at my filters  :-? I'll try to explain...the bottom "lip" if you will, where the water is flowing back into the tank is just below the surface but I do keep my water levels in the tank high. So, is that what you mean by the water flow under water? Just to make a point I guess, if I'm doing a water change and don't turn off the filter then the lower the water in the tank the harder the water is hitting from the filter, therefore creating more flow?? Oh my gosh, I didn't mean for this to get complicated :-? Caryl wrote: Yes, I understand that Caryl, but does it, OH DARN, what am I trying to say :-? okay, some fish don't like too much current (is that the same as flow :-? ) say by a filter that is much too big for the tank...does adding an airstone cause the same effect??? Vison wrote: Because of its location? Sorry soooo confusing :-? Caper
  17. Oh my gosh, you have good eyes, I don't know if I could tell if any of my fish were missing scales Anyway, my veiltail Beauty had a period of blood streaks in a fin, I did nothing and it just cleared up on its own. http://www.goldfishparadise.com/water/temperature.php Don't know if there's anything there that could help or not. 18. darn, double post again, sorry mods, please remove...OHHHHH HATE WHEN COMPUTER DOES THIS  Mark, a bit of topic but I have a question since that last picture is so clear. You said this is a red zebra. I've been doing a bit of reading on them. What are those "spots" on his fin called? Do all red zebras have them? Do you find them to be an aggressive fish? Caper

  20. Sorry Snookie, not sure I know what you mean? Example, my filters are all hang ons. What about the airstones, do they affect flow? Caper
  21. Okay, I know that airstones create surface movement. Ohhhhhh darn, don't know how to put this...it's right on the tip of my tongue can you read it??? Filters create water flow, right yes or no? The larger the filter, the more flow, right yes/no? So does adding an airstone, no matter the kind or the size of the pump create more flow? Caper :-? :-? :-?
