Hi Loopy...so to hear about your fishie (I'm just catching up here, haven't been on much). As you know, I DON'T know a lot about fish. But I did see a pic somewhere like yours (the one you have taken from the top of the little guy) and it was said to have dropsy. I hate that I can't help people here when everyone's been so great to help me. I'll be anxious to see how things go. Take care!

sorry....had this posted in wrong section. 1 of the fantails: Underneath..."chin" so to speak...is really red. 1 of the fantials: One of his smaller fins near the caudal fin? but smaller is red. UPDATE ON 2ND ONE: Fin is no longer red and he/she is fine. Any ideas??? I tried to get pics but they just would not stay still! Water (change & vaccuum) tonight...didn't get done last night too late getting home: ammonia 0 nitrites 0 pH between 7.2 and 7.6 - 7.6 is a darker blue and this is almost a light blue but not 7.2! Oh and the carbon filter is due for a change. UPDATE ON 1ST ONE: I'm sure there is more on swim bladder here...but still new at tring to find things using search! I've been reading about the swim bladder disease, and found this thread in another post (part of your reply Caryl). -eats okay (they all had peas, Tuesday) -from the best I can see, the red under the chin is gone, but not sure -when eating he swims -he floats around till he gets "stuck" in the artificial plants -dorsal fin clamped -tail fins...certainly not "open" like his tank mates, so I guess they would be considered clamped Could this be swim bladder disease? Been reading about it, but unless I'm misunderstanding the sites I've found so far say they "stay" on the bottom. I'll keep searching here & on the web. Is he dying? Is there anyting I can do? I put aquarium salt in the other night instead of changing the water. Changed/vacuumed last night. I even took the fish out (not something I normally do) to give tank a good vacuuming. I placed them in the bucket of water I removed from the tank and placed an air line in with them (covered bucket). Now because I was in a hurry to get them back in, I didn't really notice if this fish stayed on the bottom of bucket or was on top, darn. PLEASE HELP...I don't know what to do! Okay...just checked again...I think the red under the chin is gone now or at least not like it was. But looking at him...it almost looks like his has an "8" shape to him...as if the lower end towards the rear...is swollen a bit...damn, not good at describing...try to get pics. This is where he ends up trapped...until I free him. The orange section, coming down his belly (behind the gills) that is what appears to be swollen on both sides of him. He's the one with the nose down

Thanks Yah, I love them...and you're right...3 more names...was looking at them when I came in for work and thought of one name (for the one you like mustcooktea)...but...  forgot it already  :-? He was so sweet to get them for me
-
Hmmm...sounds like a good product. I have never heard of it around here...I wonder if you can get it in Canada...will have to check the web. This stuff almost sounds too good to be true
-
Thanks mustcooktea! I'm just so shocked...yah, I will keep an eye on the parameters that's for sure. When I first looked, his girlfriend was passing me the food, then he brings out the fish. First I thought there was only 1, closer...2...closer...not a reflection there are THREE!

OMG...my son just came in with 3 new goldfish for me and a big can of goldfish food and a can of tropical food...I didn't have the heart to tell him I wasn't going to put anymore in the tank...oh well, must start planning for a new tank That now puts 5 goldfish and 2 ottos in the 10 gallon...how long do you think I can get away with it...assuming they all survive. Have to go and get them ready for tank...OMG

-
Hi How many ottos do you recommend for a 110L tank?
-
Yep, they are in with the tetras. I'm trying my best to not get females...the same with my guppies...all males
-
Thanks Hummingbird! I read on the internet (don't remember where) how to check your tap water for pH...think it was a cup...and had to leave it sit for a period of time...hmmmm...must try to find that place :-?
-
OMG...the platty that I couldn't find...searched and watched for....just walked by the tank...and boom there he is! I have all males, Hummingbird, not ready for babies   The only other fish they had at the pet store (for a community tank) was the white cloud minnows. I had read about them awhile ago but I wasn't sure if they were a schooling fish, thought they were. I asked the lady and she said no 2 would be fine. Let me see...could it be because that was all she had was 2...darn. Yeah, I checked again and they are a schooling fish. Oh...Puffball is sitting in front of me rubbing his face on mine looking for attention    The fact that I only have 2 do you think they'll be ok? Yep, I read that about the minnows too...oh dear I walked by the tank...not the fish

Howdy Got home Monday night but didn't get a chance to come here. Was getting ready to go online last night, MAJOR thunderstorm. Wouldn't even think of using computer! Just sat here hoping the power wouldn't go out...thinking of my fishies! Cat was already hiding under the bed  Not something I can do. Yes, the "Start Right" is to remove chlorine & chloramine. Good, just wanted to be sure that it could be used earlier than the 24 hour time frame if needed. Ok, not for the time factor...but still okay using the de-chlorantor/chloramine, right? I was just using bottled water but if I start using the tap water all the time it would still be ok, right? THANK YOU
-
Would you please explain more about brackish tanks? Ummm...someone told me something before...but as usuall...if forget
-
I agree...I love watching the fish at feeding time. I can only dream of needing automatic feeders

Reading all the threads here. I tried to get a battery operated filter but the pet store was sold out. I'm a little lost here... :-? If there is a power outage, thought might have one last night MAJOR thunderstorm, what should I do with the filters? I'm I understanding correctly...just pour out the water that is in the filter...put "fresh" water in filter and turn on???? I have to have water in the filter before I turn it on.
