  1. Feng Shui recommends uneven numbers. 13 is unlucky (for some), so thats a good excuse to go for 15
  2. they are beautiful, thats for sure. i think i have seen them at most of the lfs here in christchurch on and off - some places more than others. its surprising really because the north island (unsurprisingly) seem to get a fair number of unusuals compared to down here, though at least one of the lfs's here tries hard to have a nice variety.
  3. Or why, even ! But anyway, lets all allow this to get back to killies - Barrie - is there any mileage in the killi club offering to give info sheets to retailers so that their fish buyers can be better informed ? Im thinking that in a country as small as NZ there can't be a huge number of LFS ? Maybe the info sheet could include details about membership to the killifish association and details of breeding ? just a thought on how to improve people's knowledge.
  4. Glad to hear that dixon, thank you, because i was beginning to feel like the victim of a witch hunt just for having an opinion
  5. Shall we all agree to drop it then ? I misunderstood what Barrie was saying apparently - thats all. I have stated I agree with him about people making ill-informed comments about killis - all I got wrong was that I thought he meant the three year thing to be about ALL fish because the comment I made was about ALL fish. Please guys, this is crazy. And livingart / Dixon1990 - what is the point of adding your cheap jibes ? You complain about people turning posts into arguments and there you both are smugly adding fuel to the fire too  shame on you both because you are just making things worse. Perhaps you know how to pull my strings and delight in antagonising me ? Good on ya both.
  6. You really are making a mountain out of a molehill aren't you ! I did not turn the thread into an argument - its people like you who pick up on the slightest disagreement and sensationalise it with your muck-stirring comments that turn things into arguments. Everyone is allowed to have a different opinion and to state it. I thought Barrie was replying to my general comment about fish ages when he said not many fish live beyond 3 years hence why i said (somewhat amusingly or so it was meant since it was stealing the title of the thread) what i did. And anyone who believes that there are not a lot of fish (in general) that live beyond three years, quite frankly, is a moron. Just because this is a killi forum, does not mean that a post cannot branch out - or do you only think in such a narrow minded way about everything ? Have the last word if you want to - I wont reply any further. I have explained what I meant and it has been you who has chosen to stir things up and make a personal attack on me. I suggest you go look at your lovely dem/yellows tank which I have made several complimentary posts on your thread about. It might help you to relax. It seems at the moment you only want to hear things if they fall in with what you think is right and no-one (or me specifically maybe) can have a different opinion.
  7. Oh for crying out loud - do you really have to add fuel to the fire !? I WROTE:- "Its still not a very long time though even for the ones that are not annuals - but then some tetra are like that too. I cant see LFS's putting signs up saying "these fish only live 1/2/3 years". As for killis, even if they dont live long, I would think part of the fascination of them is breeding them to continue. I have often thought of getting in to killifish as i think they are beautiful, but alas - cant do it all." AND BARRIE REPLIED:- there is not a lot of fish that live past the 3 year old My remark about 1/2/3 years was about fish in general (the preceding comment about tetra would have indicated I was generalising - it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work that out) As I stated, I thought Barries reply to my message was also in "general" context hence why I said I disagreed. I have to say, phoenix, you making a post like yours just adds unnecessary fuel to fire what has been completely misinterpreted and taken out of context. Now give it up.
  8. I know that was the thrust of your thread and if you read my first comment you would see your remark above is quite incorrect. I am interested in killis, and am positive in my attitude towards them. Whilst I dont have any now I have kept them in the past. I agree with you that mis-information is troublesome but would suggest that to make the comment that "there is not a lot of fish that live past 3 years old" is as stupid and ill-informed a statement (when referring to fish in general as I thought you were) as the comment of killifish in particular only living to one year old that seemed to cause you sufficient offence that you wrote a thread about it. For some reason Barrie, it seems you are getting your knickers in a twist for no reason. So let me clarify things; - I like killifish. I have an ongoing interest in them, having kept them in the past (aphyosemion australes in fact). I would like to keep them again but cannot keep everything I want to. I agree it is frustrating that people make ill-informed comments (whether its about killifish or cichlids or marine fish or fish 'in general' or anything at all). I thought your comment that "not a lot of fish live past 3 years old" referred to fish in general. If it did, I still disagree with you, though Im not interested into counting how many do and how many don't - the fish I mentioned were stated as an example to illustrate that there are in fact plenty of fish that live beyond three years. Thats all there is to it so lets not get all stroppy about it eh ?
  9. If you just meant killifish I retract my comment but if you meant "in general" I disagree as there are a lot of fish that live beyond 3 years. Most cichlids, most catfish, a good number of barbs, plenty of gouramies, the list goes on.
  10. I'd have to answer that statement with the title of this thread "what a lot of rubbish" - there are tons of fish that live beyond three years.
  11. Its still not a very long time though even for the ones that are not annuals - but then some tetra are like that too. I cant see LFS's putting signs up saying "these fish only live 1/2/3 years". As for killis, even if they dont live long, I would think part of the fascination of them is breeding them to continue. I have often thought of getting in to killifish as i think they are beautiful, but alas - cant do it all.
  12. Just found it, sorry - its a brain-fry weekend, lol.
  13. Lol - glad im not the only one, though i watched it as a nipper, hehe
  14. Dixon of Dock Green indeed !!! (Come on, own up - who else is old enough to remember that ?)
  15. wanna tell me too ? (how much u paid for the dems that is :-) )
  16. Hmm, you may have a point there - I have just looked back at your question and see it was asked a week before the auction closed so they ought to have time to reply.
  17. Alternatively you might consider the possibility that its just a red tinge caused by a multiple of variables such as flash (evident in the picture) or reflection of something else thats red, or chromatic abberation, or poor quality camera, or poor quality image processing on their computer - rather than jumping to conclusions !! Have you seen the other fish in the pic ? They also look a lot "redder" than one might expect. Personally I think that pic shows the danio with a lot more gold than I would have expected if it was one of the red GM fish (comparing against the pics of them on TM I saw when they were being sold). Im definitely not condoning GM fish, and dont want to get drawn into an argument about the topic, but I think its necessary to have something stronger to go on than a very dodgy pic. How about buying their current listed fish using the buy now as a pretext to seeing their tank and the danio in question so you can verify your concerns before taking any (possibly) incorrect action ?
  18. lol, if you can claim its an axminster it can be the ugliest carpet in the world and still gain you kudos, hehe.
  19. no worries. what size are u having made ?
  20. Soon ? LOL _ thought you couldnt wait
  21. You would need to ask them that.
  22. Bubble and squeak did mine in three days flat.
  23. Is 1.018sg the correct level ? I thought it was meant to be closer to 1.022/023 ? Reason I ask is in case it has an affect on your glass getting dirty so quick.
  24. Bubble and Squeak make tanks at rates that are lower than I was quoted by the alternatives. I was very pleased with the tank they made me
  25. So I cant persuade you to send the dems down to me so you can go ALL BN ?
