Why ? Do you want to buy it ? I have decided I prefer (decent coloured) dragon bloods instead. That way I will have a greater splash of colour in the tank as I can keep several male dragon bloods without causing carnage.

Thats a great video - as are the others on your photobucket I see like many you have clown loach in there - they look great in there and I am guessing they are happy in african lake parameters too ? Nice one.

livingart: i dont know if thats what its proper name is - i was told its "alpine rock". Its not what I will be sticking with though as I dont like it that much :roll: (thats me all over!) phoenix44 - this is just a tiddler tank - 2' - which i got at a bargain price but Im going to upsize.

Thanks livingart - its nowhere near perfect but its a start. Half my problem is I am way way too much of a perfectionist. Its taken me months to accept my own decision to have fish from different lakes in there eventually ! LOL. I just hope I can control myself and not go crazy but it can be a very addictive hobby !

Oh ALLRIGHT then, LOL - I got bored tonight and took a couple of pics. But remember this is a small tank. Now I have got a fish I want a bigger tank already. This was meant to be a few julidochromis and a few small other fish (who knows what). Now I can see I wont be able to stick to that plan !!! I feel MTS coming on Grrr.... Ain't he cute ?! 8)

No, really ? LOL When its done and has more than one fish in it you will see it Currently all I have is one fish in a 2 foot spare tank.

Brilliant phoenix44 - you have a great memory What is it they say about elephants, hehehe ? That colour in the pic that Ryan posted is the best of the colour depths I was referring to (as opposed to the strawberry pic I initially posted in that thread, now removed as i needed the space on my website). So what causes some to look washed out and others to be the striking colour Ryan has in his male ?

I have seen pics of dragon bloods on TM and on here and they seem to vary in colour from a transluscent pink to a really nice deep orange colour. Are these different strains ? I am keen to get the more colourful variety

What about hosing it down and letting it soak for an hour in the bath before carving then ?

Because I dont know where its been. I clean everthing that I dont know where its been, lol. I got it from a guy who obviously bought a whole load of it and its been standing outside.

I have got hold of a big block of oamaru stone for my african tank to act as a buffer and also to drill and make it look nice with swim-throughs etc. How long does it need to be boiled for once i am done ? or should it soak for several days ?

They will be in with 3cm marlieris and similar size dems and ast. brownae - but only for a while until the africans are a bit larger and too big to fit into a synodontis's gob, lol. But if you think those africans would harm the corys even at that size please let me know as I love corys too much to do that to them. I also thought they would be good vacuums while the tank load is building.

Can Corydoras do OK in a rift lake aquarium or is it mean to them since they are from softer, more acidic water originally ? (Or as I suspect does it not matter since most are tank bred now) ?

I just bought a beautiful astatotilapia brownae - he is only a wee man but colouring up already. Just wondering if there are different genetic lines of these in NZ or if they are all the same ? I would like to get a few girls for this handsome fella. Have seen one or two people advertising them, but wondering how many more out there have these lovely fish. Cheers

You can buy diamond paste and polish it out but from the size of tank you have it would cost as much for the polish than the amount to replace a pane of glass. If its temporary only turn the tank around and view through the back panel And quit worrying about the scratches making it unsafe - its fine

I am wondering which filter is best, the Eheim ECCO 2236 or Fluval 305 ? Please tell me WHY when you state your preference In particular I want QUIET ! Its going in the bedroom. It will be for an aquarium not exceeding 250L which will house a mixed African cichlid community consisting of Julidochromis Marlieri, Ps. Demasoni and possible a few Astatotilapia Brownae. (your comments on that combination would also be welcome) Thanks.

I don't and never claimed that it was definitely the case. Having visited every LFS in Christchurch though, and not seen one that displays them, I think its reasonable to assume its likely that plenty others dont.

If they are nasty to own kind would one on its own with other types go ok or would it just aim its aggro at everything else ? And/or do they need to be in groups ?
