Plant flower photo
Fingers crossed you get loads of seeds as I hear the Crispus may be added to the CITES list of endangered species due to over collection in the wild.

corydoras
They have the same vision as any other Albino creature, no need for the fishy optician.

corydoras
Sorry I have not been here in quite a while but I just had to answer this one. Long finned Aeneus are selectively bred for abnormal fish, lets all hope that they will be left in the LFS's tanks and not in ours. http://www.corydorasworld.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=18

My corydoras!!!
163 named at the last count I think Caryl with loads more to come, just got a list from Peru with two unidentified species on it, shame there were no pictures.

Albino corydora turning blue??
Hi TeeCee. As I said before this does look like a genetic throw back, possibly to a species interbred to strengthen the gene pool. Nice healthy looking fish for all that. Good Luck with them.

Filtering a large tank
I wish I could breed them, they would be worth a mint. Good to be back Pegasus, I do like it here.

Automagic water changes
Is there anywhere you could put a large enough sump to contain enough water for a 20% change? If so you could set up a system like this, I set this up last year for a friend who is unable to carry the water as he has a bad back. The 4 foot tank is his sump, twice a week he turns off the pump, drains the water and refills with a hose from a mixer tap so it is roughly the correct temperature, turns the pump back on and he is finished.

Filtering a large tank
Hi Caryl. Drill the sump and have an overflow from it to an empty tank that will be large enough to take the excess. Make sure the outlet from the tank is positioned correctly as the other guys have pointed out, here is a couple of pics of how I set mine up. 1" hole being drilled, this is 3" from the top to stop overflowing. If you look at the top right hand side of this pic you will see a "T" piece which allows water to flow up through it, if it blocks the water rises until it goes in the top.

can someone help
This is one subject that crops up regularly; I will try to give you an easy description of the basics. Most but not all Corydoras breed in the same manner, there are a few that need more coaxing to get them going but this will give you the basic idea. The majority of Amazonian fish are triggered into spawning by the seasons of the year. Drought with little food followed by the floods with an abundance of food. This is usually the only stimulus they need to start breeding. In the aquarium we have got to try and replicate the seasons of the year to induce spawning. One way of doing this is as follows: I use small tanks 18" x 15" x 15" for breeding Cory's, Silica sand substrate, 25C with small air driven foam filter, small bunch of Java Moss and Fern are sometimes used. Select your Breeding stock having 2 males to 1 female. Feed well on good quality foods such as Brine Shrimp, Bloodworm etc. After two weeks of this the filter should be starting to slow down, and water movement should be relatively slow. Gradually reduce the quantity of food but not the quality over the next week, do not clean the filter. Now remove 50% of the water volume, Clean the filter and refill with water at a temperature of 20-22C. You hopefully will find lots of eggs stuck firmly to the glass and on any plants present the next morning, remove parents and add 1 drop per gallon of Methylene Blue. Eggs should hatch in about three days at 26C and should be fed Microworm or Baby Brine Shrimp as first food after they have used up their yolk sac (a further 2-3 days). Please note this is only a rough idea of the principle.

Bronze Corydora eggs
Word of warning if using Brine Shrimp, make sure they are well rinsed to avoid salt build up in the water, microworm is a better first food if you can find some.

Albino corydora turning blue??
Hi TeeCee. This sounds more likely to be a genetic throwback to the original species, 99% of Corys pattern and colour go through quite drastic changes as they develop. Have you got any pictures?

Sand Substrate
I would not think you will get Aneorobic patches as Goldfish are constantly moving the substrate around looking for food.

Middle of the Marshwood Vale near Bridport. If you can find Shave Cross on the map I am 1 mile towards Bettiscombe from there. You know Dorset then?
