  1. the fitting i have under the tank is the same as the 25mm ones on chimeras thread pg 5 new tank, sump room etc. That is were the hole size differencs is, looking at it, its prob only 2-3mm difference but it seems to be working ok
  2. hey pies the hole through the tank is smaller than the stand pipe by about 3-5mm i have my fluval 404 running it at the mo and it is working good, once the pipe goes through the tank it does a 90 dg turn goes along another 5" then another 90 dg turn into the trickle tower, this was the only way i could do it because the sump and trickle are to tall for under my tank, the only noise i get is the water hitting the 90 dg turn once it goes through the tank wich im not bothered about. Does this sound ok cause i prob dont need to run that much though the tank i can always go for a smaller pump, im getting a good deal on the pj 2000 and once ive used it i cant take it back if its to much. I will try to post picks asap
  3. hey guys one last question to all, im looking at getting a laguna power jet 2000, i think it does 3000 -3500 ltrs an hr, i want to buy it cause i will be getting it cheap, as ive said my overflow and durso stand pipe is 25mm will this handle the flow or am i pushing it? any help would be appreciated.
  4. Yay got the tank filled today and am running the trickle filter off my fluval 404, just until i get a pump. The overflow and durso standpipe seem to handle the fluval wich does prob around 1000-1300 ltrs hr. Before i filled the tank i put the hose into the overflow and turned it on to full, it seemed to handle that as well, i dont know how many ltrs an hr my hose can flow but its definately more than my fluval. Will get hold of my bro's digi and post some pics in the members tanks as soon as i can
  5. cool thanks ira, ill look into it, i tried the overflow tonite, just by pouring buckets into it, no leaks but the overflow did fill rite up to the top. I was pouring quite fast though, so whether it will work i dont know, it sure looks good. I'm looking at pumping around 2000 - 2500 ltrs hr i guess il find out when i get it running.
  6. what do you feed them, do they all eat the same food, i know you said that you have been feeding them the same food for the past few weeks, i know a guy who bought some blood worms, fed them to his fish and the next day they were all dead, he reackons that the blood worms had been thawed out then re-frozen and sold, food poisoning, cause his water was fine as well. I dont know, just an idea?
  7. few, the hole through the tank fitting is about 20mm and the pipe is 25mm, i will drill the hole through the cap as small as poss, cause i can always make it bigger if i need to, thanks pies will let yas know if it works ok.
  8. hmmm food for thought, i'm off to see if i can get some deals on bio balls today, installed the overflow pipes last night 25mm hope thats enought to handle the flow, il soon find out, not to sure how long to leave the silicone to dry maybe a few days, i just want to make sure it wont leak. I have installed a stand pipe(durso) with the elbows and am thinking about putting a cap on top with a 10mm hole in it would this restrict the water flow?
  9. Thanks ira that will give me a little bit more space at least, i suppose cause the sump is only half full it wont matter to much.
  10. got the tank today looks really good, one prob though the space underneath my tank is about 500h but the trickle filter is 460h ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! dilemas. Not to keen to modify the stand again as its just been painted. How thick does the poly have to be on the sump it is 300 x 600 could i have it sitting on the carpet? or is that to dodgy, cause that would give me that little bit more space, secondly how often does the media have to be cleaned the trickle has two compartments one on top for filter wool and the one under for bio balls, i can get to the filter wool compartement but its a bit harder to get to the other. Any ideas? :-?
  11. next question to all, what kind of filter material to use? Bio balls i take it are the most commonly used, is there any thing else i can use? ceramic noodles are good in my canister but would they work in a trickle? I have seen some flash ceramic noodles at jansens i forget what they were called but they were so expensive.

Hi there is your tank a new setup? are you over feeding? have you enough filtration? seems funny that you should have a high ammonia reading at all. :-?

  17. Hey guys im gonna be getting a tank made up next week, its a 5' around 390 ltrs for fresh water fish a b/tiger and lung fish will be the inhabitance, should i bother about getting the tank drilled and using a sump with a trickle filter? or should i just stick with my fluval 404 canister filter what do you guys reackon?
  18. Thanks guys has any one used rio pumps theres one on t/me it does 2600 ltrs hr for $80 are they any good?
  19. thanks northland chic i was gonna look at getting one of those but il steer clear, cheers, i would rather not have something to noisy as it will be in my lounge.
  20. Thanks guys, yes it is a return pump for a sump so 2000 ltrs per hour sounds good cause i will be keeping larger fish, thanks for the info guys i will go check out some of the brands recomended, cheers.

    Arowana

Yea they do loose there colour, and i have seen them for sale a lot cheaper than what he is asking, that was a while ago though. Every silver aro that i have seen has got drop eye usually in one eye, so thats something to watch out for, i dont think that exotic ones are as prone to getting it, though they still can get it.

Depends on what sort you are after, i have seen silvers for $100-120 or then you can get exotic ones which are heaps. I never had any probs with my aro and plants, they pretty much keep to the top of the tank but i guess it depends on the aro. I can tell you that they can be very skiterish when young and do some real damage to themselves by hitting the top of the tank.

Hi i used to feed mine uncooked prawns, and when i shifted him on, the guy who took him was feeding him cichlid pallets and he ate them ok. I hope you have a huge tank cause they get massive, my old silver aro has now been moved to Auckland zoo he is about two foot long and growing.
