thanks for the replies guys. will try and get you a photo, will wait for a friend to help as she is much better at downloading things than me! i have removed the shipwreck, they have a small jug, which the knife and plec are sharing!!! I will get some driftwood tomorrow for them. I only just heard about the clear tubes, will try my old gravel syphon, great idea Kim! i tried the jbl plec chips on my last plec, and he didnt eat them! will try again. dont think my knife fish is getting enough food, he has hardly grown at all! its good they keep their value so i could sell him in years to come. but for now i am going to add two golden bristlenoses and another plec. Might get a normal goldspot to put in the cols water tank, see how it goes. would be good to have an algae eater in there too! Want to get one of the blue catfish lights Kim, what make are they? and what is there proper name? will try and order one in. does it work like a blue moon light? hope your days were good!

great, should have gone for the gold nugget. prettier! wouldnt come out to eat as did put food in. you love those JBL food dont you kim! will have to get some driftwood and remove the wreck. my black ghost knife fish loves his wreck though. and obviously catbrat a small fish will make less mess than a large one! will se how it goes. shame he is so shy. also wanted the golden black eyed bristlenoses but she got the royal instead. will get some when i come up. can you put plecs in cold water? know someone who has done it, just wondered what you all think? then i could have another in the goldfish tank! thanks

hi guys, I looked at planetcatfish, thats how i decided it was a royal. looks like the olive green royal most, which is the L027b but dont think is it that green. so far it has only been out once, has been hiding the rest of the time. Will have to get some driftwood. it is in my large shipwreck so far. Do all plecs produce the same amount of waste?? It is a shame it is so shy, obviously one wants to see there fish! and dont worry Kim, am still coming! hopefully the end of Jan!

hi Jude the yoyo loach looks just like the zebra loachs i have seen do! will have to have a better look at them. But they do look the same so that would explain the nastyness of them both. wonder whether the ones i saw were incorrectly named. interesting! see what others think

hi guys I now have an emporer plec, friend bought it for me. It is about 5 inches long, and is kind of like a zebra but the stripes are way less obvious. She said that was what he is. anyone know anything about them, want to find out a wee bit more. he is pretty cool, has red irises which is cool. Anyone know about them??? Thanks

hi Jude, yeah the golden zebras I have seen have been like that! saw some trying to eat a huge golden apple snail. Have also seen them gang together and take down a neon! poor neon, felt for it, they then proceded to eat it! not the nices really. They look really nice but i wouldnt get one, let alone the school they like to be in! too nasty. p.s. get my golden bristlenoses today! YAY! hope i like them! plecs

thanks for the replies. Wet Pets dont have many different plecs, dont want albino, dont really like them once they are big! They have the odd gold nugget, but dont think i want one of them anymore. think I will take a trip up north and see what i find! good luck with your new fish, hope they go better!

hi Jude I dont think my albino's are blind! I have a selection of cory's in my tank, albino, peppered, panda and jullii and find that they do seem to stick to their own kind. I dont have 6 of any of them though and they seem happy. think minimum two of each would be ok, although the jullii's dont seem to hang together at all. What kind of loaches have you got Jude? Seems some are pretty aggresive, like the tiger loach, but others aren't. would be interested to know.

and Catbart, what is your butterfly plec like?? am tempted with one of them too, but hear on dark gravel they can be hard to see. blimey, i am getting so obsessed with plecs!!!! think i need help!

hi all, have decided a trip up to Auckland is needed! what shop do you own Kim?? and where is it? and Hollywood Fish Farm, is one of the two better than the other? how much are your blues and gold nuggets Kim? have you found that the golds die easily? thanks for all you help everyone! :lol:

thanks catbrat, not even heard of most of those plecs! and i thought i new most of them available in NZ. not having much luck getting any cool ones here, some can order in but want to see them first. not sure what to do.

oh, and i have an eheim external filter. professional. does this help? there is a good current going.

thanks sue the tank is four foot, heated, well planted, i have a fair few cory's of different types, kuhli loaches, black ghost knife fish, some cardinals, rainbows, cherry barbs, borneo suckers and a lonely serpae tetra. I am getting two black eyed golden b,n's, they dont grow very big. really keen on a cool plec, that will show up well, get on with all and not too likely to die on me! Thanks!

hi all, I recently lost my goldspot plec from a tumour and am keen to replce him. I want something different this time. I am getting two golden black eyed b/noses and want another plec to join them. Thinking of a gold nugget but have heard they can be aggressive. anyone got any ideas?? I have dark gravel and want something that will stand out. It is a big community tank with cory's and kuhli loaches on the bottom. Thanks
