  1. yeah found that with silica sand too i like the natural-ness of it lol
  2. no its stone i like the silica look so its pitch black, not grey, grey is common enough. like white silica is pure white, liek sugar i want pure black for the red aro, i want a balck walled tank with back bottom also clown loaches will shine in contracts to the black substrate
  3. h, hard to imagine what it loosk like i found suppliers on finda.co.nz ill call and ask for samples or go to their shops see hwo i go
  4. same as the sand you get in urns for ashtrays are silica i think
  5. where do i get fine black silica sand i know lfs now sell the bigger gauge black silica - but i want sand
  6. starve a fish long enough they will eat anything lol
  7. with jardinii, from experience all other feedback i have found that one of the remote success is this 1) fish too fast 2) tank huge enough to escape from jar 3) LOTS OF FISH introd in one go. YOu require all of the above for the right recipe, unless youare lucky with a small jar to begin with but even then they MAY snap Plecos have been known to be destroyed by jars, but they stand a better chance providing they have hiding spots, during evenings they will come out when jar is sleeping i guess. i say just leave it by itself down side of jars i guess
  8. there are two trains of thought with arowanas in asia, very commonly, they will put the arowana by itself in a tank, with about 10 to 20% to spare of width in tank compared to its maximum body length, it just swims back and fourth. 2D really OR giving the arowana chance to be able to jet around in different angles, so at leats 50% more compared to its width. so it can shoot around, even hunt or at least pretend to. depends on you i have seen massive high grade expensive arowanas in tanks just same as its width almost, and they are healthy, big and nice colours.... quality of life..thats another thing. im sure a dog can survive, and be healthy being in a pen for its whole life but if you put a dog in a slightly bigger paddock or run, it will be happier right? so yeah, depends really i would say a 50cm aro in a 60 cm width.... sure thats fine, if you put it in a tank thats 80... would be much happier... just my opinion.
  9. be care ful of tank mates at that size, its either they will tolerate tank mates or kill them, no middle ground with jardiniis. but yeah, awesome! love them
  10. not even sure if he would import it, would be a fortune though. i was hoping for an albino:D
  11. to be honest, i have never found garlic guard to make a difference. just from observation. I dont actually know wether or not these products are scientifically tested in a controlled environment or sold purely on theoritical benefits. it will eat the prawn by itself im sure. also, the chances of shrimp actualy absorbing garlic guard is probably minimal
  12. there you go its more than 5k:) 007 is the importer himself im sure he can h elp you with your query:)
  13. i find that underwater plants form some sort of a layer, i dont think its always originates fromt he plants, could be bio film perhaps, and i think it may be that catching on dirt and particulates. my theory, i seen it before, indeed solved by a few things 1) water movement 2) pleco and BN types of fish
  14. to me its appetite and aggression. the more agro the aro and hungry means its got a healthy disposition. age too. small when young so not stunted. i want a high grade red!
  15. yes, true that! 8) i even considered selling everything i had, minus some selected specimens to fund just one high grade aro and i realised, i still wont have enough money or just enough lol
  16. 007 is his name, his name is king. he is on the forum. PM him
  17. i think like reds, in a brood of xbacks some will come out mixed with difference base colours, doesnt always mean one is more expensive than the other.
  18. yeah, there is no end though you gotta set a budget and stick to it. you can always spend more. like a car! that website is a good place to start he brings in top notch animals - expensive but great specimens. xback is gonna set you back a bit. for the cheapest last time i checked was 4k to 5k. thats a reasonable price to bay for a good quality one. do you have experience with arowanas? or is this going to be your first cos if it is, i suggest to start with something cheaper, get the filtration going, your knowledge and stuff, then get one.
  19. i couldnt wean my aro off, too weak lol i cant resist feeding it. my jar is eating only prawns now, pellets is too expensive. black is eating pellets, the last of the hikari and then prawns too. just too expensive to feed pellets - once they get to a good size, pellets does not put on size anymore, prawns is more than sufficient for good diet. locust i feed to by the way, for trace and minerals.
  20. yeah surprisingly, there is a large proportion of people feeding beef heart to carnivores overseas wtih great success, though some research say otherwise, the proof is in the pudding i guess. i have seen a pic of the biggest ornate on MFK, and its fed on beef, soemthing like 20 yrs old or something crazy.
  21. not sure. cooked and raw should in theory contain the same. i feed beef heart and raw prawns now and its completely all good. but what works though man 5 years old, that must be a big eel pics? size?
  22. i just cant get plants to grow ! they grow and stop growing after a few months! the second to last frontier with aquarium keeping for me
  23. 5 years, cant argue with that, i guess just going from my experience and feedback from others. but yeah, 5 years, if you wanna go wtih that model no worries. but as ally said, price for cooked and raw shrimp is identical. storage is identical. Natural is better IMO.
  24. i think im gonna start with a small fire eel but lfs dont have small ones, looking for cheaper ones you see. anyone know where to get a small fire eel let me know, otherwise ill wait for hff to get smaller ones
