  1. Corals can go in as fast as you can afford, but I would try just a few to start with incase there is a problem with your water.
  2. Ops sorry, was thinking your were in Auckland.
  3. Karma, you should change your location, its very confusing

    Firefish shoal

I had two for a few months and they stayed in different parts of the tank. They were both out all the time, and eating etc, but then each one (about a month apart) started hiding and then disappeared never to be seen again. From what I have read this isn't uncommon???
  5. Even ISO is pretty hard to get cause its used for making drugs, theres a local garage that sells it but as far as I know it's the only place in Wlg. They sell it as paint stripper.
  6. Nice, pic's??????!!! The eating thing was why I asked, doing a quick search indicated that was the big problem. Are yours both blue?
  7. Do you know of anyone that has sucessfully kept one?
  8. Adding Mg to my tank helped sort out the levels of Ca a whole lot, still not perfect but getting a lot closer
  9. They come apart pretty easy just pull on the prop and it will all pop out. there no tricks or catches etc it just sits in there.
  10. I dont think it matters, I have grown softies from one pylop before, have also heard of people putting smrooms in blenders then chucking the lot into there tanks, but dont think this is true!
  11. There are charts online that show what you need to dose depending on what your plants are doing, check one of these out and buy a fert that is high in what ever you need. If you are happy with your plants don't dose anything, otherwise it will be a waste of money and you risk putting your fert/light/CO2 out of balance which could cause algae problems. Have you tried checking your PH at different times of the day to see if it changes? There are really two type of stability with PH, short and long term. During the day the PH will swing for a number of reasons, plants using co2, fish breathing, etc, so if you are measuring the PH at the same time it might look like it is stable (because you have long term stability) but could be swinging quite a bit during the day. FYI I have an electronic PH meter in my marine tank, this shows around 8.0 in the morning before the lights come on, and sits on 8.3 when I get home in the evening.
  12. I'm going to have to rock the boat here and say that I don't agree with buying ammonia and nitrite tests. The cycle is pretty easy to understand and it just takes time, testing isn't going to make any difference, all you would gain is maybe being able to add fish a few day earlier. But like I said you know the cycle is going to take about 4 weeks is it worth spending $60 to tell you that it is completed and that you will never use again? If you really wont to know that your nitrites have gone take a sample to your LFS and pay $2 or visit a local reefer who did get suckered into buying these tests.
  13. Sorry to have to say this but so you know for the future, the high temp probably wasn't what killed the fish, most can handle temps well into the 30 for short periods. it is the fast change in temp that does them in. What you should have done is just remove the faulty heater and let the temp drop slowly so the fish could adjust with it.

    new heater

I always recommend getting two smaller one's, that way if one fails on its going to take long to over heat the tank, and if it fails off, the other one will keep the temp up.
  15. Would be interested to know what sort of range you are talking about here? Maybe could you let us know what different pumps you tried this with?
  16. over flow box should be as small as you can make it and be able to get you over flow pipe in, oh and you hand as well so you can get it back out to clean/adjust etc
  17. lots of way to kill them, and its nice and easy if you can take the rock out, vinigar, kalk paste, hot water, pretty much anything acidic or alkaline
  18. You would want to soak it all for a while to let the lime leach out of the cement or it will screw with your PH.

    "wild plants"

Yep some of them are even sold in LFS, there is a type of very common hair grass that I often see.
  20. Cause they eat his fish.
  21. Increase your water changes, decrease you feeding. When you do change the water use cold water, this will trigger the spawning, they spawn when it rains in nature

    Starfish

Either way I wouldn't risk them, Ive some similar starfish in my tank, they don't cause me any problems but I have tried to remove them and it is impossible, I would be stuffed if they did start eating my corals.
  23. Have you guys seen the new tank build by Bill Wann... 22000gallons, yep that is the right number of zero's. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=938243
