Sorry for your loss, I lost my first pair and almost gave up on keeping betta's. I now have another lot of fry from my red male and blue female. From the first lot of fry I only had 6 live and it looks like 3 of them are female at the moment, so I got another male today.

I had a same problem with my pair, Was fighting with the nitrite levels, gave up in the end and moved them into another tank that was cycled. How long has the tank been up and running?

Penejane, I also saw those JBL balls on trademe, $14.50 buynow? The same day I was in the LFS who had them for $12.95 for 20 or $7.95 for 7. So do check your LFS first.

I believe the molly is fin nipping the guppies and just chasing the swordtails, But the sail fin is about 75-85mm long and most of the other fish are half that. Yes and just the one molly

I have a friend with an only male tank with guppy's, platies, swords, assorted tetra's and a sail finned molly, looks very nice with all the colour. However the sail finned molly is a bit agressive. Just something to keep your eye on.

And I've been the slackest, can't remember welcoming anyone to this amazing site that I only found just over a year ago(can't believe it's been that long) So welcome everyone I now have a very bad case of MTS that seems to add one tank a month.

I believe what you brought was in fact a young male(now not so young) Was it a private sale and how big was it? Cheers

The same stuff does happen to us freshies, My power bill is up from $80 a month to almost $200 a month with running 1555W of heaters and 280W of lights plus filters etc. SWMBO is not happy, and keeps asking when the fish are going to breed and start paying for their own keep. Sounds like I need to change over to saltwater or get a warmer house.

I found the best way was Live food followed by live food and some more live food, White worms, Brine srimp and mossie got mine going Don't forget live food. All joking aside, I kept mine in the same tank with one of those dividers in it and just feed them up, I also floated a piece of poly to help the male with his nest. Came home one day and the female had jumped the divider and I took it out. Within 6 days of getting the pair I had fry that I wasn't really ready for. I blame the live food.

Have you tried Hollywood Fish Farm(Mt Roskill), I believe I have seen them there.

I have 6 small clown loaches and they hide quite abit, but at feeding time they are very active, I wouldn't worry to much if your water temp is good(which I believe is around 28 for clown loaches) and water tests are ok.

This is my wifes red tiger This was my white tiger (I believe thats what it's called) But I swapped the white for another red, hoping have a pair..

In that tank there is also 5 green severums, 3 gold and a burmese tiger loach. So for the stock level i think it's ok, would prefer a sump in the stand(then I could setup 4 more smaller 4's if I had the heaters and shares in the power company)

I have a similar problem with my 450l 4' tank with particles in the water, just looks messy almost all the time. I have a 303,304,Shark 3 and a atman 104 which also acts as the pump for my UV filter. My PH was always low because of drift wood, so I used argonite(spelling) in one of my filters and just kept adding more over 2 weeks until it settled around 7. All water tests are nil. And remembering weekly gravel cleans helps heaps as my Oscars and pleco are messy. With a tickle filter I have seen another piece of glass going from slightly higher then the trickle filter glass top to 3/4 of the way down to the bottom with a slight gap between glasses to take water from lower down in the water colomn, would also help I believe. This was on a crystal clear 8' tank (was however under stocked for size of tank) Colin

Yep clowns and angelicus loaches are great for cleaning up snails I had a snail infested tank with thousands of snails, hundreds climbing the sides. 6 clowns and 2 angelicus now and I don't see snails anymore(but I know they are there) Most loaches eat snails I think, some are cheaper 2. All depends on your budget i guess. My loaches are always digging in the gravel.

Just a little addition to last post, Cycle needs fish waste to feed it as its live bacteria (not sure about Stress Zyme) I myself used Cycle on a 4' 450Lt tank the day I set it up 2 months (the tank did go cloudy for 2 days though) ago adding 8 fish and haven't lost a fish in that tank (touch wood) yet

They have small spotted puffers at Hollywoods(Mt Roskill), can't remember price but they had 4 yesterday.

The tank I used the salt in had clowns and B/Noses in it so I only used half the dosage, I think normal dose is 1 tbsp for 20Lt from memory(may want to double check that) Colin

Hi HelenMac, you don't have any carbon in your filter do you?(if yes, take it out) I normaly just use tonic salt and temp of 28-30. But just had a bad case of whitespot and was recomended that I treat with whitespot cure every day by LFS(not the usual 1 every 3 days). Hope you have better luck with yours I lost 11 fish

Here's a pic of my new loach(in bag) as I thought I may not see it again in the tank. I have heard they can be aggresive, has anyone else got or experienced this with there's? Colin

I agree with Caryl, does look nice but how does it look now are the plants all where you planted them? Or has Agamemnon moved them abit :lol: Colin

Has anyone had any luck keeping this for long, I think it's a marginal plant(ie in and out of water). Found some black mondo grass today so I'm giving it a go. Colin
