  1. looks like another must visit place, after the galapagos islands.
  2. there is a formula to go by.the pump must be big enough to shift the volume of the pond over a given period. The uv does kill the algae and alot of other things ,bacteria etc.As the light intensity and daylight hours grow longer you can`t afford to turn it off at all, maybe at night when its dark?
  3. uv sterilizer of the correct size should do it?work out the volume of your pond and get the appropriate size uv .Bulbs have a limited life span and need to be changed yearly, that reminds me mine must be due for a new one.
  4. so 2 mths later you are no further ahead??my tortoises are outside and have emerged from a full winter hibernation?you are a bit slow off the mark I think?
  5. i think this almost qualifies as an `urban myth`?? What ever you want to call it .how about an unenforceable piece of clap trap? there are heaps of bluetongues in and around auckland and there will continue to be.
  6. next time you are up this way faceanthrax, you can come over and see my komodo dragon, just don`t tell anyone,i have some juvenilles forsale, just working out a deal with animates. :rotf:

  14. don`t forget you are dealing with someone who has kept beardies for so long(all of 5-6weeks??)probably bred heaps too???read all the books and internet sites, now a fully fledged expert???? :sml1:
  15. maybe, but i have seen them a brownish colour?have to have a close hands on look?
  16. the main thing I think is if you do leave them out, leave them alone!no getting them out to see if they are ok etc,no food, just provide what they need and leave them to it.I have had redears outside, unheated for 20yrs or more(hawkesbay).only lost one that was a really old melanstic male that i don`t know how old he was when i got him,but he looked old!
  17. that will depend on the size and location of our setup and the wattage of your heatsource. To many variables to give an accurate answer.Thermostat is definatley a good safety thing to have.
  18. "a fish" for you??that sounds a bit fishy to me??
  19. I would be inclined to go the way of a young one and grow them up.The thing is they grow that quickly when cared for properly its not that much of an issue? Also you know that you have given it all it needs and it has had optimum food etc. you might as well have it for as long as you can and get to know all about the individual.I bought a leopard gecko on a bit of a whim recently(was cheap??) and I have never ever seen it eat, can`t pick it up because it will try and bite me,squawks like an angry chook and has obviously never been handled?if you get the young one you can teach it to like you.
