You may be onto it with the crab thing, I read on RC they will mess with brittlestars if they are short on better food. Do brittlestars get old & die anyway? I've had the one below for 6 years he was very small whan I first got him I think it's a different one to you though. I've always got rid of all crabs except those little peach coloured acro ones. this is about all I see of it

You'll like Fays. A great mixed reef with all sorts in it, everything is healthy you feel like you're looking at a piece of the ocean. Like you, I wish she was a bit closer I'd go there more often.

Paid Puttputt a visit tonight, well worth the trip. The guy REALLY DOES have corals growing out the top of his tank. Here is a pic taken tonight showing this Also to demonstrate the remarkable growth he is getting, here is a pic of the same coral from below. 1 year ago it was a small frag, now, at a guess, it would be around 2 feet across. It has also had numerous bits chopped off for distribution to friends. Puttputt is a big tank, big coral man. The tank is big and spacious, it is not jammed with corals they are well spaced, just a little bit of fighting is starting now they are starting to grow into each other. Plenty of wide open spaces to allow good flow and the fish have heaps of room. There are some very happy looking fish in the tank, all look perfectly at home, and are fat.

I've had more in less, long as your filtration is adequate should be fine.

Ouch! When I had my problems I did some big water changes, the immediate effect was to make things worse, I think because the corals were so weakened that any change was hard for them to tolerate. Probably longer term it was good, but not straight away.

I'm normally on the recieving end! :-? Used to it though, first serious job I had was working for a beekeeper, which I did for 7 years. 20 or 30 stings a day was not unusual so doesn't bother me any more. Like my kids say, no brain no pain! :-?

Yes I'm an exterminator! Actually, long story, when I started my current business about 15 years ago, things were pretty bad for the first few years, struggling with slow sales, BIG debts, demanding kids, expensive wife......... :roll: Anyhow I called on old skills from way back and became the NS City Council bee and wasp man, which generated a modest but steady part time income, and without which i would have probably lost the house. Still doing it have squeezed out all opposition on the Shore I've got the whole turf. It's a fun job I enjoy, the private stuff is mostly cash, (Layton your mystery job is not for the IRD is it? :lol: You'd be good at that) And an excellent different type of thing to the other rather boring but sometimes high stress businesses I run.

Thanks Dave, I've seen the odd post from you in other boards, but never realised you had such an amazing set up, and wealth of experience. Likewise the webcam, brilliant! Also, thanks for dispensing with that stupid photoshop insinuations / nonsense (which we have all heard, from the same source, before). Yes I'm with that, 25 ml def too small. The 20 ml return pipe works cos there is a heckuva lot more pressure from the pump.

One of these plumber types like Chimera will know, but for the mean time, you said you removed the durso, is what's left close to the bottom of the tank? Is there any air trapped in the outlet pipe? You can get this working at least for now, by restricting the laguna with a tap or similar, but it will be nice when some others who know more than me can advise on what size outlet you need to ensure enough flow. Also, the pipe may clog a little over time, so you need spare capacity.

Don't know about the controller, Reef would know. If you use a trailer make sure it's not a stiff springed bouncy type one. 1/2 ton of water not sure how you'll move that, I use 20 litre containers but you'd need a lot of them. Looking forward to seeing how this goes, I know you will do something interesting. That rock of yours still in the sea? If so by now there is probably a complete cold water aquarium of critters living on it ready for direct transplant to your tank!

Congratulations, finally you are in business! :bounce: Your plan sounds good, and it's a nice looking tank. The thing at top right, it's an el cheapo alternating pump that always gum up & the alternating bit never works right. But hey, it's a pump.
