  1. That's a pity, although probably the right decision given all the beautiful corals you have. I would love to see this done though so anybody trying it MUST post on here! . The trick will be to put the anemone in before lots of corals go in, although corals could be added once the anemone is settled.
  2. Agree about not putting too many fish in, one of the reasons TheConches tank is such a beauty is that he has not overstocked it. It is a very common mistake for people starting to put too many fish in it is so tempting. Plus, people are often used to FW stocking levels, but the fishload capacity of a SW tank is much lower. I don't have a RSM myself so cannot speak with experience, but i think 2 very small juvenile occellaris clownfish would be OK. These kind of fish don't have much territory in the wild and can be totally happy in a tank this size. They also don't eat as much as other fish the same size thereby reducing bioload, and will also stay small in a small tank. But if TheConch has a different opinion on that i will bow to what he has to say. Also, clowns would be much happier, plus more interesting, if in an anemone, they would be completely as in nature. Still waiting for TheConch to see how an anemone will go in a RSM, any progress on this Conch? Alternatively, just a small flame angel, as TheConch has, is a happy option the flame angel is one of the most awesome coloured fish and adds much beauty to the tank. My suspicion is it will outgrow the tank in time, but if this happens it could be sold and a new one purchased. What Markoshark said also, in a tank that size a damsel will have a tendency to badger other fish to death.
  3. Indeed.... So much that could be said. But shouldn't.
  4. Ha! Amazing actually you CAN suss someone by talking to them for years. He looks almost exactly how I pictured him!
  5. Thanks Wilson. I looked it up but couldn't find him, he's been in the news?
  6. New toy JDM? Didn't think there was too much wrong with the old one HaNs there was not much fish, some occelaris clowns, at least one tang, plus some chromis, can't remember what else I was more absorbed with the corals. Does look like they are planning on stocking a lot more though they had a whole bunch of new marine tanks set up they were curing rocks in.
  7. You like it? It's yours! Just right click it & save to your pc. From there, upload to your photobucket account.
  8. Passed through Rotorua on the weekend & dropped in to Wonderworld for a look, wow, what a surprise! Only checked out the marine side of things but got to say it was great! Well set up and everything was healthy. The guy I spoke to, Ardie? was very knowledgeable and very helpful. Got the biggest clam I've ever seen in captivity also!
  9. Most corals will be OK but no fish yet, not fatal for fish immediately at this level but dodgy over an extended period.! What's happening you starting a new tank or something?
  10. Big thumbs up to all who gave good service! And those who took time to bring it to our attention!
  11. I can remember long time ago a thread Layton said he uses tap water and said Chch tap water is some of the best tap water in the world. However as memory serves, someone else did some tests and found out it depends just where you actually get the water from, some of it was not so good. Where is Layton anyway, you got his contact Jolliolli? As a long time Chchonian  , he could give his opinion/advice.

    Reefs Reef Tank

It's a maze brain although the lighting is making it look bluer than they normally are but they are a very attractive coral, a good one can be tank centrepiece material.
  13. Well good you still got those black clowns, in fact if you are putting them back in the main you have the opportunity now to get an anemone in and settled before you start putting corals in.
  14. Well, it's clean! You got your corals stashed somewhere or getting new ones?
  15. Best bet would be a small bubbletip anemone but a few things to be aware of. Your lighting is at the lower end of the scale it is borderline for even a bubbletip, but it might be enough it would be interesting to find out, both for you, plus other RSM users for the future. If anemones are light starved they get paler and paler, eventually becoming white, then dying. So start with a good dark coloured one whatever you do don't buy a pale or white one as they need to go to a more highly lit tank to recover. The other issue is that when you first put a bubbletip anemone in, they tend to move around till they find a suitable spot. Problem here is your tank is quite full and the anemone will sting things as it moves around, and in turn will get stung by some things. There will be a degree of luck as to wether it settles in safely or not. Other clown hosting anemones get too big for your tank, they would expand till they filled the whole tank. I'd say get the smallest bubbletip you can find, but a darkly coloured one. Some bubbletips for sale are small because of stress etc from shipping but this will be given away by a pale colour. You want one that is genuinely small, so look for a rich dark colour. Even a bubbletip will grow too big for your tank, but they can be chopped in half if need be, which I do to mine every so often to keep the size down.
  16. Thanks Rollergirl, long time no see! How's things going with your tank, hows that tiny little blue tang you had? Slappers what happened? You re-cook your rocks or something?
  17. here's my latest although still having problems getting a quality shot. Once i can get a good one I'll update my tank section which is way out of date now. Have recently changed to 10,000 k bulbs no actinic at all which the corals seem to like, although the overall tank is a little yellowish to what it was before.

    RC down

I haven't been able to get on either. Major banning spree? What's the gos? I haven't seen any trouble brewing must have missed it. They did have a major banning spree couple of years ago the main mod, Gregt, went ape and banned nearly all zeovit users including myself. I didn't even do anything ban worthy so never did figure that one out, I've created a new user name from a different IP to get back on. Anyways keep us tuned in Rockerpeller, was it zeovit again?
  19. Very nice pics. The full tank one is lovely you must be very pleased!
  20. Ha! Great minds think alike  Reef Solutions is the thing I was thinking of. The reason I was thinking that is because on the overseas boards I have seen cataphylias often do well in a Miracle Mud tank. I also thought that if a person did not want to dose his whole tank with Reef Solutions, perhaps feeding the cataphylia a small morsel that had been soaked in Reef Solutions would do the trick.
  21. I'm no expert cos I've never had one I just keep the easy stuff. They are reputed as being very difficult because they do well for the first few months but then nearly all of them wither away and die and nobody knows why. But in just a few tanks they do well, grow, and even have babies, it's one of those reefing mysteries. If in the future it starts to fade away, let me know, I do know something that will probably get it back to health it would be interesting to try.
  22. Real nice! You still "not entirely happy with it yet" Be interesting to see how you go with that cataphylia.
  23. That's OK then Dan0 phosphate removing resin will be a good thing. Had me going there though when I thought it was for biological filtration i was nearly going to say you should go back & ask for a refund. Where the shop went wrong they should have explained it was for chemical media in the first place, otherwise how would you even know to change it.
