  1. Good to be back Of course photos will be included, will be buying everything instead of making myself this time  Ill start a new topic in the correct forum after i get a couple of pics taken 8)
  2. Looks fungal, melafix and salt , from memory, had a similar problem with one clown, I put it in a hospital tank by itself added salt and a fungicide, at only half strength as clowns dont have scales and are sensative to meds. Keep the water real clean. sombody with more recent experence may shed a little more light on the treatment
  3. Hello It will be a freshwater, planted and will mainly be the home of clown loaches, filtration will be with an 80 ltr sump and have a DIY co2 system, Twin 6ft T5 light tubes lighting 600 ltrs of water. one of the chalenges here is the water quality and the summer temps that can be 40+ deg c over the summer, just right for overheating tank water so a small water chiller designed for aquariums will be added. I had 14 tanks in Christchurch and all the water came straight from the tap with no treatment or filtration and never had any problems, here may be a different story may haveto invest in a RO/DI filter system to get perfect water to add into the tank. Should be an intersting setup, just hope I can keep to one tank, or maybe 2, at the most 3 but definitly not 4 ,,, maybe
  4. Lets see,, my last logon was Mon Feb 23 2004 , :sage: and my name is still register'd on the forums  Well done to the forum admins for keeping my name on the list I shifted to melbourne 5 years ago, hope im still welcome here , I am going t be setting up a 6ft x 2 x 2 ft tank here and hope to post the purchase , setup and running of the tank for new users can see how easy and somtimes hard new tanks can be.
  5. Im just around the corner from you in Retreat rd and problely on the same main water line, never had any problems at all, just straight from the tap and into the tank.
  6. Try letuce leaves, de shelled peas, cucumber, they love that. Two large slices of cucumber and a large letuce leaf lasts about 5 hours with my 9 loaches.

    What Filter

I have made a filter using a brewing barrel, there is a 1000 ltr/hr submersable pump in the bottom which the outlet is connected through the drain hole at the bottom where the tap should be and a hole drilled into the lid with a large plastic water fitting screwed into the lid, the cable is threaded through a small hole in the top and secured with hotmelt glue. The pump is covered with stainless mesh and the rest is contents of a large bag of filter wool, you could use 1/2 a barrel of bio balls then the filter wool ontop if you want to. If pics are wanted i can supply them. and it cost me a total of $130 Terry
  10. unfortunitly its not that easy for me to get time off, need to book in at least4 weeks in advance  but im working on it
  11. I would love to be there but im working in the evenings, got to find another job one with normal hours 8) terry
  12. The negative people can go and find somthing else to complain about, I have been known to be thick skinned and according to the guys at work thick headed as well well lets just say i have spoken to a few people and they are intersted in starting a seperate group, ( ive beed trying to type somthing PC here but words fail me at the moment , proberly a thick head moment ) With the amount of people who i see in the fish shops here im shure there will be a bit of interest if they are approached and I know of 2 shops that are intersted in suporting as well. Thanks for your comments, I aprecieate them all Terry
  13. I know there is but they are not very active and after talking with quite a few others I have decided to form a second and hopefully more active group of fishy people. And Caryl thanks for the offer and will call on you in due course for your help,, Thats if I dont get to many bad and negative comments to make me dump the whole idea of the club completly
  14. I need to hear from anybody in the cantabury region who may be interested in being the founding members of a Cantabury fish society/club/group/bunch/gaggle/school/flock,, pick one Any comments or thoughts on the subject may be emailed to me directly at [email protected]. If I can get enuff interest, flyers will be sent ot shops to try and get a bit of interest going and hopefully a few members together for a bit of a fun and an informative time for all. Any comments welcome Terry
  15. He has improved alot, almost back to normal, looks like ill have to get another couple to keep him happy, he has been a bit stressed after changing to another tank. Terry
  16. I shifted a silver shark into another tank, he was fine thismorning but when i came home tonight he had one eye bulging slightly and the other not as bad, I proberly feel he has run himself very hard and fast into the side of the tank and given himself a very bad headache, hopefully he will recover. My question is, does popeye become visable after a short time, 8 hours, or would my theory about hitting the glass be more likley, he does seem to dash about madley and iI have seen him hit the tank side quite hard. Terry
  17. This is sounding a bit like a comittee
  18. If you need a hand let me know and ill drive down.
  19. Macka after seeing your tanks I had to do somthing about my big one,, email with a pic sent your way. terry
  20. Those fish are gigantic, the photo's dont do them justice terry
  21. I also use a phillips energy saver lamp on one of the tanks,, it is mounted in one of those flexi type tabl;e lamps,, they are cheap from the warehouse terry
  22. I have not had any problems with the good old under ground filter, three of my 600x300 tanks have u/g filters so has my 36x18x18 inch and also my 1300mmx500mmx450mm and two more 600x300's with small sponge filters. the 36x18x18 has 9 clown loaches and a large plec and silver shark so this tank has another internal filter just to clean up the muck that the clowns seem to stir up from the bottom at times. http://www.globe.net.nz/~biteme/clown.html In my opinion the u/g will be fine unless you are going to heavly stock the tank with fish, or as Caryl says rgds Terry
