  1. Good food, i really mean mix it up. Blood worm, white worm, tetra flake, brine shrimp, ox heart. IMO flake and crumble are fine but you want the best for breeding. They may be eating the eggs because they are missing out on something in there diet. My thought anyway. Can't hurt to try.
  2. Couple of things to try could be, Feed small amount of good food more often Place a bit of wire mesh about 10mm out from the eggs, just so they can see them and fan them but can't eat them. Keep a night light on, more so when there is fry
  3. Can do, but not always.
  4. You are wanting a bit of a shock to induce spawning, so by keeping them in fresh and then flicking them to peated water can work. My peated water is at least a week old, i just keep filling the drum as needed. You are looking for eggs the size of a pin head, maybe a bit bigger, should be clear looking.
  5. garden centre and yes does change the ph a bit.
  6. Im sure there are lots of different ways of doing it but my way is like this. This works for most tetras, dainos and barbs. (barbs just require larger tanks) I split the males and females up into tanks about 250cube. Feed them up on good food such as white worm, BS, flake etc. When the females look nice and fat - after about 3- 5 days depending on age i move them into a breeding tank. Just net stright into the breeding tank, the shock helps with the breeding. The breeding tanks i use are 300 x 150 x 150mm wit a layer of 1.5mm mesh (mitre 10), mesh should be put in so fish can't get under. I get water from a drum that has a pump pushing water thru a stocking of peat. Water should be nice and brown or rich tea color. Water about 60 - 70mm high. A small clump of moss is added. I add the fish just about 1hr before lights out, The next morning there should be a nice layer of eggs, if not wait another 24hrs. If still no eggs put the pair back into the original tank and feed up again. You don't have to split the fish up you could just pull the right out of a display tank into the breeding tank. Once the you see eggs take adults out and mesh and wait. So species do need darker conditions to hatch, bit of newspaper or poly works well. For some species i also add a drop of meth blue.

BBet you will never do that again
  8. None of the current ones. There is a shop in Chch that had 8 6ft tanks, from memory most of them did hang over a fraction. What are you getting at.
  9. Warren or Barrie may be able to help on this one. But yes if it is toughened then you can use thiner glass. How you work this out ???
  10. Sorry did not think it had a plastic frame. If it was all glass then would be fine, had 30 x 30 x 15 inch tanks sitting on a 30 x 15 stand so 7.5inch each side overhanging never had one break. In my fishroom all my tanks overhang. Sure a 4footer is much larger but you are only overhanging it by 10mm on each side. It won't break because of that. Most tanks break on their base because of either no poly or uneven stand.
  11. um, colour, how they breed. Come take a look if you like. Can also sort out that other problem.

yes i did. Verry cool fish. Just don't put anything small in with it including shrimps, well do it at your own risk
  13. Yip, the power of a elephant the stamina of a sloth and a brain like a lemming
  14. Will be fine
  15. Killis Monos if you can find them..
  16. kathmandu is another good example
  17. could use strips of lead
  18. Look at the final price not the discount given. A company that gives you 25% off something may still b dearer than one that does not discount at all. Eg in Chch at present you can pay Between $5.95 and $10.95 for a cardinal tetra. With a buy one get one free deal on that $10.95 fish you pay $5.50 per fish.... So you only save $0.50

The eggs are not as tough as killi eggs, however when i used to do them i did pick the off the underside of plastic plants with my fingers and put the into another container. Found they laid small amount a couple of times a week,
  20. She is not to show or breed from etc so she will be the same price. We got ours through Lisa (Anahera). Have not had any health problems so far, like with any dog there are some things that may go wrong. This breed are known for there problem with there hip, joints etc so geting a good dog to start with should help. Also we are only just starting to take our dog for walks/runs now, we were very carefull not to give her to much untill she got a bit older.
  21. Yes and yes. Here she is as a pup, about 10 weeks And at about 14 months Where are you on the waiting list?

I had one with 5, the heater was in the middle with a temp of 27, the next 25 and then outside one 22. It was out in my garage also. If you could get a bit of flow between them then that would be best. Or look at a heat pad. What fish were going in there
  23. And then they double in size with feeding
  24. These guys are still alive, they were the first batch of two current ones. Ryanjury has some also, three way tie maybe
