Hi guys,
I am using sea water to top up my tank each time, but won't the salinity keep creeping up due to evaporation and replacing the water with more salt sea water?
Be careful about buying those 1000l tanks. Most have had nasty chemicals in them. I just bought one that has had ethanol, which I am hoping won't effect the fish except get them drunk!
Lol, Amonia now sky high. Darkest of the colours on test strip.
Should I take all the mussels out now? I left one in too keep the process going. Do you think I still need it in?
Cheers
Well, it seems that wasn't one of my better ideas.... I came home this evening and the mussels are dead, the water all cloudy and a pretty pungent smell coming from the tank.
Geez, that didn't take long to screw up!
Thanks guys. I didn't have a shrimp, but the wife bought some mussels that she forgot to give to me so I thought they were dead and threw one into the tank. Low and behold it's opening and closing happily in the water.... Anyone know what mussels eat? lol
Hi guys,
Was trying to avoid a chiller but for sea horses it looks like I may not be able to. Does anyone know of a good price chiller and more importantly, what do these things cost to run?
Thanks
You are right Ira. I pulled it hard and it turns out it is just a plug in the end of the hose. Probably for a major overflow.
Aquarium now set up and added dry rock today with fresh seawater. Lets see how we get on. I'm a bit worried about the circulation level. I had a 2000l per hour pump but drain couldnn't keep up so I added a valve and it looks pretty slow now.
Hmm, sounds like hard work. What about the tropical ones that have been raised on frozen food? Do you know what temperature they need? I was hoping to get away with no chiller.
Thanks
Yeah, I noticed that Sage, there is a huge difference when moving with a half full tank, truck slops back and forward with the water. Filling the tank up though makes the truck look like the tyres are about to pop lol...
Buying the tank was the cheap part of the operation!!!
Was a bit concerned by cornering at speed with the tonne of water in the back sloshing about....
