  1. Hi all, I just wanted to know if anyone has seen these in they travels L27 xingu. If you have can you please let me know as i would love to get one. Cheers
  2. Hi Ian, I had a L-114 that used to eat floating pieces of zucchini that had dislodged from the bottom of the tank. Not sure why he did it, he had heaps of food on the bottom. Showing off i think Strange but fun to watch Cheers

    co2 question

Hi Jayci, You can have too much C02 in a tank, yes. To be honest with you ive never used a counter as i usually do a lot of testing when i'm setting them up and then just leave them to it. Just a tip, don't bother buying those expensive difusors, just use a powerhead. Good Luck
  5. Nice Work FuglyDragon. I would be very interested in your results when your finished. Keep us updated. Cheers
  6. ok Jack Jack will do and thanks for the link. I found a skimmer from that site (AquaC EV-240 Spray Injection Protein Skimmer) that does up to 1200 ltrs for $830.00 but i think i might go for the AquaC EV-1000 Spray Injection Protein Skimmer for $1300.00 because it does up to 4000 ltrs, more filtration the better i thought. My tank is a 6x2x21/2. I cant justify spending $4500 on a skimmer. Thanks again guys Nick
  7. Ok thanks i will do that. Cheers Steve , as you said the sand bed depth is somewhat confusing at times with ever man and his dog with their own opinions, but i was told if the sand was just stuff off the LFS shelves and was dumped in at once, it could cause BOMBs, but i look forward to the challenge and rewards ahead. Hey jack jack not sure what you mean by uncured, the stuff im getting is fresh from the ocean and is all live. I read a theory about the placement of the LR which reckoned that it was best to have 25% of the sand covered with LR and 75% open is that true? One more thing, would you purchase a skimmer @ $239.00 for up to 1000 ltr or 1 for $279.00 for up to 2000 ltr, personally i would spend the extra 40 and buy the bigger one, no such thing as over filtration is there? The brand is AquaSonic Thanks again for all your help Cheers Nick P.S Go the All Blacks and lets get another half century
  8. Hey Guys and Girls Ive got two questions about the above. 1. I done alot of reading and talking to many people about dumping 4" of live sand straight into a NEW tank, just wanted to know your fullas verdicts and advice. 2. LR is put in half-and-half is that correct (put half in at the start of the cycle and the rest at half way), its going to be 60-65 kg? Thanks heaps. Cheers Nick
  9. Will do thanks again.
  10. Could i maybe modify the wet/dry to be more efficient and dependable such as removing the bio-cubes and filter media and replace with sand or LR, because i have read also that they are nitrate magnets. So what do you use for filtration apart from LR and sand? Cheers Nick
  11. Hey Layton Oh ok, yeah maybe down the track but im just going to start off slow and build it up from there but....i did want to get all the correct gear in now so i dont have too worry about it later if you know what i mean. I think i might go for a 4" layer of live sand, which i can pick up for $3.50 a kilo and ive been told that about 60 kilo of LR will be enough. Can i use lava rock as base rock? What else can i use? The wet/dry was mechanically and biologically filtering the water in the freshwater tank but doesnt the sand and LR do most of the filtering in SW tanks, so basically the sump is just for equipment such as heaters, skimmers etc to sit in and how far does the wet/dry go in the way of filtration is concerned. Thanks heaps guys Nick
  12. Hey guys Im actually using the sump for filtration but have used canisters in the past. I LR is about $10/kilo straight from the diver. Whats a full stoney reef? I have read that it can take up to six months to fully cycle a tank and to get it stablized what is your guys views. Thanks for the links Chimera. I do want to keep a full reef including fish. What about calcium reactors, RO and DIs would i need them straight away because i would set up the LR and other equipment now, so down the track i can keep soft corals, mushrooms, clams, sponges etc. Thanks alot Nick

    Sick Fish

The spray bar is near the surface of the water and my air pump is connected to my powerhead. Thanks for all the help guys, things (i think) are starting to calm down now but im going to convert the tank into salt so my brother is going to take the fish. Cheers Nick
  14. Can i use compact flouros say two doubles say about 360W or is that not enough. Can i ask why the budget is around $7K, the tank is actually running at the moment. I dont have any RO equipment so what is the next best thing. How much rock do you think will do, is it around 20% of the water volume. Thanks for the info Nick
  15. Its a 6x2x21/2 with a 3' sump.
  16. Hi all I have been keeping freshwater tanks for a while now and im dead keen on changing over to salt and ive got a few questions. At the moment i have a tank with tropicals in it and was woundering if i could just take out the fish, gravel, plants etc and throw in the salt and let it run for a while and then add LR and fish etc. What sort of equipment will i need apart from a protein skimmer and chiller later on if i get any corals. What sort of lights do you think i will need? Would the tank need to cycle again, if so for how long. Thanks in advance. Nick

    Sick Fish

Thanks very much Bill There was no carbon in the tank while the medication was going. I have always wondered A. the amount of bacteria that is killed off for the duration of the medication and B. why cant bacteria grow on medication residue but have avoided this problem with products such as Geo and EasyLife. Actually, the clowns are little down but are one of the perkyer fishes in there at the moment. My Whiptails at the moment are on their backs and not lookin to flash. Cheers Nick
  18. Hey Kellsz Might have seen this before but check this out. http://article.dphnet.com/cat-02/spironucleus.shtml Hope this helps Nick

    Sick Fish

I had some filter media from my 4' and brought some stuff called rapid tank cycle or something like that. Its basically like adding ammonia until it reaches 5ppm so the bacteria has enough food for the cycle which speeds up the process. The tank cycled in about 6-7 days. The clowns werent quarantined (naughty naughty i know) but the state i got them in was shocking, there was almost no black colouring on them, so i put them straight into the tank. i have already done two large water changes since the second dose of medication. Cheers Nick

    Sick Fish

Hey Caryl A Otto 750N is a powerhead. No there is nothing sprayed into or near the tank. Its been running for about.....six or seven weeks. I think it was brought in with the clown loaches i got about two weeks ago because all the fish apart form the loaches were in a 4' and have not had WS for a long time. The fish are, yes, off their food, loss of colour and lethargic and general lifelessness. I think it might have been the medication i was using or the method i was using it in. Acutally all the fish are a bit stun mullet at the moment. I dont know what to do really. Thanks anyway Nick

    Sick Fish

Hey Guys I've a few sick fish and cant work out what is going on. Ammonia is 0 Nitrite is 0.1 Nitrate N/A PH is about 7.2 Tank is a 6x2x21/2 running a 3' sump and a Otto 750N. The fish in mention are three whiptails, common pleco, gold pleco, two ghost knifes, four bristlenose but other fish seem to be ok just a bit slow. There are no visable sighs of diease or fungus. Six days ago i had a white spot outbreak and dosed straight away. There are no signs of it ATM. Any info greatly accepted Cheers Nick
