  1. Thank you for the compliments  I have always wanted a " through wall " tank and its been one hell of a project but I am loving the outcome so far , just the Cichlids that are new to me so hoping that all works out alright and also looking forward and not looking forward at the same time to filling the tank for the first time :fshi:
  2. Finished up the frame/insert and fitted it today... Wanna get started on the electrics next, then the plumbing , never done plumbing before so should be interesting
  3. Stealth LED , and they are awesome , excellent build quality and are custom made to you requirements , let me know if you need contact details .
  4. Thanks guys, :bggrn: I am well pleased with the outcome, put the last coat on the insert/frame for the kitchen side so will put that in tomorrow. Still a bit to go though and we are going away end of January so only planning on filling up when I get back, but at least this gives me time to get all the rest sorted ... Electric's, Plumbing, rock, gravel etc.
  5. I finally got to do a whole bunch over the Xmas break , things are really starting to take shape now , but I have the feeling the real work is only just starting ! Pic's were late afternoon and with my phone so sorry about the quality ... :bggrn: Lounge side: Kitchen/dining side: (Still to finish up the frame insert) LED lights: Top view: Sump: (or at least half of it..)
  6. No Expert but in my Dad's Community tank it turned out to be the angels that were snacking on his neon's , sly little buggers hunted when the lights were off
  7. I was looking at some Tunze 6045's that are on special , but the Jebao ones are cheaper if you get them from Fishstreet and if they are getting good feedback it could be worth looking at , also HFF have some Reef Octopus 3000l/h's for a reasonable price too The reason I was thinking one Larger unit was to cut down on the amount of plug points I already have ! but 2 does make more sense ...
  8. Hi David , That's what I meant sorry , Powerheads ... I was looking at different options , 1 or 2 - 4500l/h or just the 1 - 8000l/h
  9. I grew some Golden Barrel Cacti from seed , its been around 1 and a 1/2 years now and they look like this, well this pic is about 4 or 5 months old they have grown slightly now and they loving Summer . Reeeeeaaaalllyyy slow growing but in about 48 and a 1/2 years it should be around 1 metre high buy 1 metre wide ! I have some left in the pic below that I haven't given away if anyone wants one just PM me , don't know about mailing them though ?
  10. Water movement advice please ? So my tank is 1500 x 600 x 600 Will I get away with 1 x 4500 l/h pump or should I get 2 ? Or do I just go 1 x larger unit running 8000 l/h ? How important is water movement in a cichlid tank anyways ?
  11. I like the Paradise too for that very reason , I also think it will look better with the Black marble chip ,
  12. Went past stone and water world today and saw some walling stone that might save me the trip up north , my first choice is the Paradise Stone Second choice is Waitaha Schist I am using 1-2mm Black marble chip as my substrate , Does anyone know if I am not able to use this rock ?
  13. LOL , could be an option ! considering taking a drive to Paradise Quarry in Whangarei with those Beers like Ryan suggested !
  14. Have tried Stone and Water World , the don't do Limestone unfortunately , NZ landscaping can only get in the new year , so will keep looking ... Failing that I will consider using different rock not sure what yet ?
  15. Thank's just added a pic , went to NZ Landscape Supplies have to purchase by the Ton , any suggestions where else I could try ?
  16. Would I be all good with using Limestone Rock in my tank ?
  17. That's what I said ! But with a few more expletives ...
  18. Yup ! Corner went down on the kitchen tiles , cracked the base ! not a massive crack but a crack Awesome aye ?
  19. So the tank and cabinetry was finally completed and it looks awesome ! ... until I got it home and my mate that was trying to help and myself managed to drop it , well I am blaming his sweaty hands ! Real unfortunate but hey Shit happens , Greg will be back from leave mid Nov to replace the base , I do think it could be patched but 600litres is a lot of water , anyways , undecided actually on if I patch or replace , either way I am going to wait for Greg's opinion . In the mean time it has given me time to gather the rest of the equipment etc.
