  1. I have always kept cichlids but never Malawi's. Well now i have my chance and i intend to set up the tank in the pic below to do so. I was going to add the rocks that you see in the picture, then some regular gravel, coral gravel and coral sand, Would this work? advise please. The rocks will be made into cave structures, to add to the background which is 3D, between the 2 there should be adequate nooks and crannies for the fish to feel at home in. If anyone can point me in the direction as to which type of fish to choose, and how many? I would be very thankful. Cheers Mike.
  2. I noticed one of my female cons was displaying some great colours, so i took a quick pic to share with you guys.
  3. No but people sometimes mix them up. especially when they are young.
  4. Here is a pic of my Blue Acara in her spawning colours. Hope you like her:)
  5. I was just wondering, as i could have picked up about a months supply this morning, After heavy prolonged rain all night there were worms everywhere this morning, On the patio, the footpath the road, I never seen the like, I Know they are a great source of protein but i am loathe to feed them to my fish after my experience with blood worms. I was just wondering, if you do feed them do you treat them in any way to make them safer for your fish to eat? Like maybe keeping them in bran or somthing to help clean them out? Many thanks for any feedback.
  6. They're only youngsters HummingBird, this is their first spawn, the male is about 2.5" and the female is about 2". here she is with a few of her fry.
  7. My red severum is doing really well as you can see, It's growing at a mighty fast rate,
  8. Here's a few pics of my breeding pair of convicts. The female showing her breeding colours.
  9. This is the first pic that I have shot of the little guy since I got him about 2 weeks ago, it's still very shy, still it looks to be in good shape.
  10. The fish in my avatar is a Buttikoferi cichlid. Thanks for the thoughts guys, and you know that when i think of it i did feed the fish some live bloodworms about a week ago and i normally wouldn't feed these.
  11. That's what i'm trying to do Phillz, but i can't for the life of me think were the problem lies.
  12. In the space of 24hrs I have lost my largest BP, my spawning FM BP, and a male firemouth cichlid. The thing that bugs me, is i can't think of a reason why my fish have died..... They were all in a 100g (imp) with 3 other BP'S a red severum, and a school of corydoras, and up untill 24hrs ago were doing just fine, My water test readings are fine i'm a bit of a fanatic for WC's, i never fed them anything different in the last few weeks and they were showing no signs of stress, The big BP died last night, the female BP this morning and the firemouth this afternoon, BTW.. all the other fish look fine. The only thing different that has been going on around the house, is a bit of work that i have been getting done, and although there has been a lot of noise from saws, kango's ect. I Don't think it would have caused my fish to die, although i may be wrong of course, i just wish i could pinpoint the cause of these fish deaths. BTW.. I haven't had a fish die on me for a couple of years, now I have had 3 in 24hrs. Here's a pic of my 2 BP'S, in better times. The male. The female. Guarding their eggs.
  13. Thanks for the feedback plecs. the going rate for a gold nugget over here is £30-£35
  14. Awesome pic misnoma, Thats the only way to put manners in a cheeky con,
  15. No, not another test caserole, that was a one off prank. I will try and get more pics up for you, but at the moment I am only catching glimpses of it. BTW...what do you guys feed to your Gold nuggets? I read somewhere that they are not to fond of algae, but that they like cucumber/courgette and bloodworms. Thanks for any feedback.
  16. Wow, looks like i got myself a real bargain then,
  17. It is about 3" and I thought that £15 was expensive for a pleco, But it is a really pretty fish, the pics don't do it justice. The most that i have seen a pleco sold for over here was £85 for a zebra pleco.
  18. Ok here are some of my Angel pics. I'll try and post some better pics when i get used to my new camera.
  19. Female con with a few of her 1 day old fry Male convict. Koi angel. Firemouth. Red + gold severum.
  20. I Picked this little guy up at a lfs today for £15, The assistant didn't know what type of pleco it was, but i think it might be a gold nugget, hope i'm right. Sorry the fish was in the bag when i took the pics, but i knew it would go into hiding for a while once released, And i was right, i have'nt seen it since, lol
  21. Ok guys, I have a confession to make, They are of course molly fry as you have all pointed out, i just mentioned eggs and pleco's to try and throw you a bit, sorry for the deceit, it was only a bit of fun, I hope you forgive my little prank. Now you can all give your selves a pat on the back in recognition of the astute fishkeepers you are.
  22. Just an old superstition,
